  1. You are at a good age to start hormones.  Though testosterone has had some effect on your body, there are numerous changes that will take place if you do not go on HRT.

Remember that you need to be on an anti-androgen, such as spironolactone, in addition to the estrogen.

Also, please do not self-medicate.  There are some very serious side effects from hormones, including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and liver damage.  You need a doctor to monitor for problems.  This is done by periodic office visits and blood tests.

  2. They will have more of an effect on you than if you took them later in life. But they can be reversed if you change your mind however you may not go back to the way you were before.

  3. yes. i started at almost 21 and it did alot for me. so i would think he same for you. plus other trans people i know that start befor 25 all get good results.

  4. They will affect you for the rest of your life.

  5. As with anything transition related:

    YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)

On AVERAGE you get better results the younger you start.  However,

That's just on average, exceptions abound.

Hormones can't do anything about excessive height.

    Hormones can't change your skeleton.

Hormones can greatly affect the soft tissues.

and I could go on and on.  Suffice to say the majority of folks who transition eventually blend in just fine.  Early on it's common for everyone to obsess about hormones and "passing".  I tell you as someone who's already transitioned not to make a decision based on those two things.  The ONLY reason to transition is because you have to.  If dysphoria is making your life h**l, making you feel as though life is completely passing you by, that you feel completely out of the loop we call "life", that you yearn to be the real you so much you can taste it...... Then transition might be the cure to what ails you (transsexualism).

Hormones are not the end all and be all of transition.

Transition is not the end of and be all of transition.

They are means to an end.  An end to the dysphoria and the beginning of finally being your true self.
