  1. yes you do as ,colin montgomrie found out 3 years ago

  2. Course rules always take precedent but some basic rules to go by:  If you stop you are subject to lose your spot. Do not jump back in unless there is an opening. It can really slow things when having gaps are built up by groups stopping, and others not. Therefore, kind of judge out what other groups are doing. If everyone is stopping and having lunch, you're fine to do it too. That way it kind of equals itself out. If people are just making 5 minute stops to get snacks, your group may want to consider that too so you don't hold up others.  There's nothing worse than slow golf, order ahead if you can and pick up stuff to go.

  3. Yes - if you stop and the people behind you do not want to stop you should allow them to play through.  Most public courses have signage indicating that this is the general procedure, and it is only common courtesy.  At a private course it is a given that you will be polite to those following you.

  4. If you are holding people up you should always let them play through. So, if you make a quick stop and go back out they shouldn't notice. If they go past you while you are taking your break then they would not be expected to wait.

  5. I play golf regularly and have always wondered about that too. I have always thought it would depend on how long you stayed in the clubhouse. If you stay and have lunch, you should be passed up, but if it's just a restroom break and a drink you should be able to maintain your spot.

  6. I would relate it to the "lost ball" rule that states that you should not look for more than 5 minutes. If the group in front of you stops for more than 5 minutes, then you should play through.

  7. The proper etiquette would be to find out the course rules, which can vary, BEFORE you tee off.  Most courses would prefer that you take your food with you and continue play with no more than a 1o minute break.

If you do stop, check with the pro shop and/or starter before resuming play.  The offer of $10 will normally get you back on the course quicker, even if the starter refuses it! ;)

  8. 5 to ten minutes rule. You Shouldn't have to wait for that. If you get there and they are sitting down having a drink or a sandwich. Usually though if you finish up the hole and they aren't even outside it is safe to go on by. Also though you got to keep in mind if you are significantly slower than them just use common sense.

  9. If my group is behind yours and you stop in the clubhouse for lunch,  but my group doesn't need to stop for anything, we'd pass you.  Not much sense in my group sitting at the tee box waiting for you to finish your lunch.  Now if you just made a quick pit stop to use the restroom or have your cooler refilled, my group should wait.

  10. You go to the back of the line when you leave the clubhouse, it would definatly be rude expect someone else to wait.
