Of course the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks were lucky enough to have BOTH. WOW! Together they helped bring an end to the Yankee Dynasty.

BUT WHICH of these 2 Dominant Aces would you rather have IF you could only pick one and why?

  1. yeah i talk about how the heck did they get both of them with my friends all the time.  At their prime, i would take randy johnson, he was just so dominating.

  2. Id say Randy Johnson seeing I believe he was the last pitcher to throw a perfect game. He's only let one left handed hitter have 4 hits in a game in his whole career. He has over 4700+ strikeouts compared to Schilling's 3100+ strikeouts. Johnson has around 80 more wins than Schilling. Johnson's ERA is .20 lower than Schilling. So yeah in all career stats, it shows that Johnson is cleary more dominant.

  3. Well they are both amazing and I would choose both of them; but since you're asking for 1...I would choose Curt cause he is very dominant and he won't give up and loves the game. Plus; I'm a Red Sox fan.

  4. If i were to have one in the regular season, give me johnson in a heartbeat. But in the playoffs i would take schilling possibly over anybody thats ever played the game.

  5. Johnson

  6. Randy Johnson, devastating 100 mph fastball and nasty slider/ breaking pitches.

  7. That's pretty easy. Randy Johnson. The guy can strikeout, give you 15+ wins, and have a low ERA.

  8. Randy Johnson is the greatest left-handed pitcher the modern game has ever seen.  He trails only Nolan Ryan in strikeouts and among active players, he ranks first in K's, shutouts, and K/9.  5 Cy Youngs, 10 All-Stars, and a triple crown, too.

The thing about Randy is his incredible consistency.  His "absolute best" might as well be an entire ten-year period from 93-02 during which he won 175 games and lost just 58.  If you throw out his 96 season in which he went 5-0 with injury, that 10-year span equates to 19 wins per year.  His high ERA season in that decade was 3.67 and his low for strikeouts was 204 (2008's leader has 167).

So yeah, I'll take the Unit any day in his un-hittable, fearsome prime.

  9. Randy...he intimidated opposing batters like no one since Bob Gibson.  When you can put fear into your opponent, you've already won and at almost 7 feet tall Randy on a mound throwing a 90+ mph fastball at your head is pretty scary.

  10. Randy can throw faster, he looks more intimidating and can throw an eephus pitch.

But I'd pick schilling cause he is an out spoken republican and is trying to end Lou Gehrig's disease, and he is good in the clubhouse, and he play even after a major ankel injury.

  11. At best, Johnson is a HOF pitcher and one of the most dominant pitchers in the last 25 years.

    At best, Schilling isn't.

    Johnson by a MILE

  12. Randy.... During an interview his first season in Seattle the reporter asked " in the 9th inning, your 115th pitch hit 99mph...How hard do you think you can really throw?"  His reponse "At Least 125mph, I want a long career and am truely afraid of killing someone if I cut loose"  Enough said.

  13. I love Curt but my honest answer would be Randy Johnson. The guy was a monster in his prime. He won 5 Cy Young awards and was the 2001 World Series MVP. Schilling's comparable but can't put down the same numbers as Johnson. With 4723 career strikeouts, 3.26 career ERA who could argue.

  14. AT THEIR ABSOLUTE BEST!!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

Randy Johnson no doubt, it's not even debatable.

  15. Randy Johnson without a question.

  16. Johnson.

Unit pitched a perfect game once. That HAS to be his absolute best.

  17. Randy Johnson

No doubt one of the best pitchers of all time in his prime...100 mph fastball, and his pitches were just filthy...one of the best breaking pitches ever

  18. At their peaks their number weren't too far apart but I give a slight edge to Johnson

    Two best years:

    Johnson: 20-4, 24-5

    Schilling: 22-6, 23-7

But honestly, you couldn't go wrong with either at their absolute best. Schilling's best only lasted two years though while Johnson's spanned about 10 years.

Ian B: Would you take Schilling or Bob Gibson for a big game?

  19. Curt Schilling. He is a jerk but I think perhaps the best big game pitcher of the past 10 years.

Johnson is awesome as well, but if I had to have ONE pitcher for ONE big money game it would be Schilling.

  20. At his best Randy Johnson was easily baseball's most dominant pitcher, you can never go wrong with a prime randy, curt is a great clutch player who can pitch well in the big games but Randy showed a little more consistency and was less demanding.
