  1. Caution-the light is about to turn red;-blinking amber means procceed Slowly and continue only if clear of Any other traffic. Most blinking ambers indicate your right-of-way if A)-you approach cautiously and B)- have time to stop and avoid any obstacles in the intersection. Blinking ambers usually rule many minor intersections after 11p.m. and therefore you should be extra attentive to what is approaching from any direction and be ready to react defensively to any intruders or suspected intruders. Amber lights during the day are a warning and how to react to one is subject to experience and sercumstance.A feel for thier duration and traffic situation is subject to your level of judgement and experience at each location. Never allow expectations to enter the equation for you subject yourself to an uninvited disaster.

  2. Technically, it means stop if you have not already entered the intersection. But that's not always possible - if you're ten feet from the intersection and slammed on the brakes, you could get rear-ended or end up stopping in the middle of it. You have to use your own judgment. Stop if you can do safely.

Many people, however, believe an amber light means to gun it and try to beat the red. Those are the ones who generally get pulled over if a cop is watching.

  3. Around here some intersections have flashing amber lights at night, it means you dont have to stop, but use caution, the cross traffic would have a flashing red light, which of course means to stop, then procede when its clear. I would treat a solid amber light the same way. CAUTION

  7. Slow down/go careful - it si about to go red
