At what RPMs should you change gears on a plain 4 cylinder 2006 Toyota Camry?

4000 RPMs?

Or just go by the sound?

  1. That information should be in the manual supplied in the glovebox of your car. Have you never read it?

    Anywhere between 2000 and the red-line!

  5. For moderate driving you can change gears at lower RPM than 4000.

    Change gears at about 2500 to 3000 RPM. It makes sense to change gears at a higher RPM only if you want to accelerate quickly. Driving constantly at high RPM will increase your fuel consumption.
