  1. A minor can work at any age if certain requirements are met. If you work for an employer the law requires you get paid. That is why it is legal for children to be actors. You have to be at least 16 to work in any job that is hazardous such as in a kitchen at McDonald's. Also, because of hours limitations most employers are not willing to hire someone under 16; it's not normally worth the hassle.

  2. 16 years old is the minimum working age in most states.

  3. Generally, you can't work younger than 14 and even then there are many restrictions about the type of work, number of hours you can work, and times that you can work.  Most places do not hire anyone under 16, the restrictions placed on labor done by 16-18 year olds are not as stringent.  In order to run a fryer or other dangerous device you may need to be 18.

I would guess that you could be hired for some types of positions at age 16 at a place like McDonalds.

  4. Except in limited circumstances defined by law, all minors under 18 years of age employed in the state of California must have a permit to work.  You can get a job under 18 in certain circumstances.
