I have a two and a half month old that wakes up once in the night. I was wondering at what age can you just put them back to sleep instead of feeding them in the night?

  1. My son started around 2 months. Sometimes I would put the soother back in his mouth and he would go back to sleep, If he was hungry the soother didn't help. He's now 6 months old and sleeps from about 8-9 pm to 7 am.

  2. You can try now...I would just make sure that the baby's last feeding isn't too early...I did this for my son at about the same age.  We would put him to bed at 8 pm and I would then get him up just for a feeding between 10 or 11 pm.  At about 15 weeks I decided to not get him up and he was just fine, sleeping from 8 pm until around 7 am the next day.  Since then that is what he does.  He is nearly 5 months now.  Good luck.

EDIT:  Is somebody jealous that my baby sleeps through the night that early??? What gives with the thumbs down??

  3. Waking up once in the night is actually pretty good and almost sleeping through the night especially if it is a 6-7 hour stretch.

Our 3 month old started to sleep almost throughout the night (with only one feeding).  that was 6-7 hrs straight (5 hrs is considered a whole night in baby sleep), feed, and back to sleep for another 3-4 hrs.  that was a good break but he only did that for 10 days in a row and now he is back to his normal schedule of waking up every 3 hrs for feeding.  In general, by 3-4 months, baby start to sleep through the night (that to us that means 6-7 hours straight, which is how long we sleep).

  4. it really depends on the baby.  The bigger they are, the sooner they will (usually) sleep all night.  my daughter is 6 weeks old and breastfed and has just started sleeping through the night (6-7 hours), but she is also 11 lbs.  But, many of my friends have 2 and 3 month old babies the same size who don't sleep all night yet.

  5. If your baby is hungry they won't go back to sleep without eating (nursing, bottle, whatever) after 4 weeks age.  So if you want to try some other back to sleep method go ahead.  But many babies require food/water during the night until age age 3-4 or later.  Actually I don't think my hubby can get through more than 6 hours without peeing or drinking.  He certainly doesn't manage most nights.

  6. now.. as long as your feeding him enough during the day

  7. My daughter started sleeping through the night at 3 months and she was born a month early so her development was 2 months.  We fed her when she woke up during the night until she started sleeping through the night consistently.

  8. Around 6 months they should be sleeping through the night according to pediatricians, anytime before that is pure luck really.  Breastfed babies usually take longer to sleep through the night but the average is 6 months.

  9. my son is three months he started to sleep though the night at two months

  10. At that age you need to feed them at night at least until they get solids. They need as much nutrition as they can get in their little bodies. They are growing so fast. My son would not go back to sleep unless you feed him. As for what age...my son started at 6 weeks but then started waking up again at 3 (teething). Then starting sleeping through the night again at 4. Each baby is different.

  11. You feed a baby at night for as long as they wake up to be fed.  Some babies sleep through the night about 1-2 months old.  Other babies still wake up past their first birthday.  They will sleep through the night when their body is ready for it  :)
