  3. I think the standard is 12 years old.

  4. It varies between states i believe and its based on when a child reaches a certain age and/or weight usually. Some states are around 6 years old and maybe something like 65 lbs. My mom never let me or my brothers sit in the front till we got to a certain height. Why? because airbags deploy at ridiculous speeds (over 120mph!!) and can cause serious injury to children. She never let us sit in the front till we were tall enough for our heads to reach the middle or so of the headrest.

    Most people will tell you kids are always safer in the rear until they are teenagers, and i'd say thats a pretty good rule to follow.
