At what age can i have a hysterectomy, I have a prolapse and its getting painful.?

  1. If you are a private patient age does not matter.

    If you are in the public system the doctors like to offer different treatments first that are not so drastic.  If the prolapse is full blown they should do it as soon as the waiting list allows.


  2. speak to your doctor about this. They really only do a hysterectomy when there is no other option left available to them. There may be some other course of action that can be tried before such drastic measures.

  3. If you have a prolapse, you need not necessarily go for a hysterectomy.  The gynae can insert a ring for you to hold the prolapse in place.  But this is temporary.  If you want a permanent measure, then go for the surgery to correct the prolapse.

    Consider hysterectomy if only you are menopause cos it's quite a drastic measure and has a number of complications.
