  1. The legal age to drive in France is 18 years of age and even if you have a full licence from another country and you are under that age, then you are still not allowed to drive in France.

A person can receive a certificate permitting them to begin practice driving at age 16 accompanied by a qualified driver over the age of 28, who has held their licence for a minimum of 3 years.

EDIT@David & Cabal: I seem to have acquired my own little army of trolls. From the hate mail that I have received it seems that they include:

    1) At least one person who thinks I'm a Zionist

    2) One who thinks I'm an anti-semite

    3) Several who think I'm a "right wing Bush supporter"

    4) One who says  I'm a "typical  anti-American Frenchman"

    5) One who calls me "an apologist for terrorists"

None of this surprises me. C'est normal. In real life, I have had the experience of of being called "A neo-n**i Reagan clone" at a speaking engagement at lunch and, on the same day, being the speaker at a dinner meeting in which I was attacked as "A n*gger loving half breed shyster from Jew occupied New York."

  2. Rillifane said it all. Trolls are probably prowling the France section to give thumb downs to anyone who answers.

Just to add to it, if you want to drive with a qualified driver, you have to register at the prefecture and get a special sticker to put on the car, to warn people.

Edit: Rillifane, wow and lol, I loved the "typical anti-American Frenchman" ! I only got called (2 lines of swear words) French. Kudos for you.

  3. Whoever gave Rillifane thumbs downs, I'm not sure I follow your logic. As a matter of fact, I'm entirely sure that I *don't* follow your logic. Anyway, here's a link. It doesn't matter where in France you are, by the way. The age is the same whether you're in Lyon, Paris, Toulouse, or anywhere else in the country. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Dr...
