  1. In my state, the earliest a kid can get a job, is 14, and that's very specific jobs, like corn husking, or specific city-run jobs.

You can get some jobs at fifteen, but most places won't hire a person until they're at least 16, since that's when the most major restrictions on what a teenager can legally do, occur.

I don't think it's even legal to be a legitimate babysitter, until age 12, in most states.

He needs to understand, it's a legal issue, not a parenting one.  If he doesn't believe you, I'd say let him try to apply for a job at McDonalds, or something, so he understands, he's actually not legally employable.

  2. Give her some money you tight git.

  3. babysitting...or lemonade stand....OH and cleaning yards i did that when i was 10 =]

  4. send him here I can put him to work in a hurry.

  5. he could get a paper round but he can't get any other kind of job until he is 16

  6. 11 is too young, legally and illegally too. Washing the car and doing the dishes for a bit of pocket money should be enough for an 11 year old.

  7. Maybe he could find some neighbors to mow lawns for or do odd chores for if he wants to earn his own money.  In the midwest, detasseling is an option once they turn 12.

  8. i think legally you have to be 14 to get a job, or that's how old you had to be when i got my first job, its nearly 11 years ago so not too sure now

  9. In my opinion I don't think any 11 year old should be working, they are still kids, let them play and have fun maybe add a few chores or give an allowance for extra work done around the house, but definitely not a job. It's not legal for them to be doing any kind of work until they are 12/13 when they can babysit/mow lawns.

  10. They are only 11 so have plenty of years ahead of them to get a job, he/she should be out playing with friends instead of worrying about jobs and money

  11. you cant work at that age you cant even get working papers (at least in NY) until you are 14. But he can shovel snow in the winter, rake leaves and in the spring and summer he can mow lawns

  12. To the kid: There is a law by the UN(the head honcho of the world) that says kids under 17 cannot work for anyone other than their parents or volunteer for non-profit bodies(aka scouts, SPCA, etc).

If you dont believe me, go try getting a job. If you get caught working, your dad will will be given the spanking by the authorities(you love ur dad, dont you?). Go volunteer at a shelter and do your own house chores

To the dad: Give him more pocket money and make him do his own house chores!

  13. If he want's to earn some money (good on him well done) why not get him doing chores around the house or doing car washing for the neighbor's, with adult supervision. Or doing jobs for the elderly i use to get my next door neighbor's bread for her on a Saturday morning from the local bakery for 50p. (1980-1983) she then passed away and i missed her terribly coz we use to have some great chats.

When i was 11 i use to do a paper round up to being 14 but in the early eighties it wasn't too bad to let your kids out on the streets now it is not at all safe.

  14. Check out the following website

    http://www.connexions-direct.com/index.c...

It gives you information on what age your daughter can work from and the hours that she is allowed to work

    Hope this helps

  15. Have him actually call some places and ask the minimum age that they hire, or have him fill out the applications and turn them in. He'll either be ignored, or told he isn't old enough, or to try again in a few years.

  16. You have to be 16 to get a job. Why don't you offer to pay him an allowance for doing chores around the house?

  17. go ahead and let him try, maybe at a full service gas station or a paper route, soon it'll tire out and he'll want to quite

  18. He is too young to get a 'job.'  But there are ways he can earn money.  He is old enough to start mowing lawns, washing cars and doing other general chore work in the neighborhood.  I started an unofficial job at age 11.  Every friday night I would babysit for my next door neighbors.  The children were older (6 and 7), they just needed someone there in case something happened.  The dad was also a real estate agent, and I would do things like stuff envelopes, address Christmas cards to clients and stuff like that.  He just needs to think out of the box.

If he wants to do something, let him.  Let him fall on his face asking for jobs, then encourage him to think of something else he can do, and go out and do it.  It will do nothing but cause him to respect money if he has to work hard for it and increase his creativity.  That can only help him later in life.  And falling on his face will help make him realize he can find ways around obstacles (like labor laws) to achieve his goals.

  19. I stand corrected if i'm wrong but I believe that it's possible to do light part time work (e.g. paper round) at 13 and 16 for full time work. (UK)

  20. as far as i know you have to be a minimum age of 13 years, even to do a paper round, it is illegal to put children under this age to work, how about you get  him to do some jobs for family for extra pocket money. well done to him for wanting to earn money in the first place and not just expect it

  21. You cant at 11

You can get a paper round at 13

    and shop work at 16.

  22. Lawn cutters in our neighborhood (Washington DC suburb) get $30-40 for cutting a small yard.  A few yards should get him those video games he wants.   Of course, you'd have to provide your lawn mower as seed capital.
