My son is 15 months and has been saying Mama, Dada, Uh-oh and Baba for quit a while now. When did your baby start talking more then this? What age is "normal" for babies/toddlers (he is still my baby) to start saying new words and small sentances?

Thanks!

  1. It varies per child. My 16 month old already says Thank you, Hi, and his siblings names, and woof woof and sings songs like ABC and Twinkle, Twinkle, and moo moo, etc. Mom, Dad, and screams loud when he wants something. It also depends on how much you talk to him.

  2. 2 years... thats when you hear the baby language diminish in to words he/she likes or is learning from someone.

if you want them to say stuff faster, then talk to them more, point stuff out when you go to the store, or read books often. some children talk more bcuz they have siblings & learn from them. its all within a household.

  3. around 2 yrs of age they will begin to develop a larger vocabulary and start repeating what others say around him..be careful of this...

  4. It really varies and it also depends on the child. My daughter at 15mos (she's now 18mos) wasnt saying much more than that... it's gradually and it depends on how much you talk to him. Maybe you can start by asking to repeat certain words... like please, or thank you... or car... whatever it is... just repeat it often. Also boys tend to speak much later than girls. Dont worry about the supposed amount of words he's supposed to have at a certain age.

My son was at daycare since he was 11 mos so he was exposed to more language, however he wasnt till he turned 2 that he really started talking, with sentences and all.

He's 3.5 now and we cannot make him be quiet!!! LOL

My daughter says a few words at a time, no sentences though. And we still struggle with her yelling at the dinner table when she wants sthg!

Anyways hope this was helpful! Your son will tallk in due time.

  5. I don't even want to answer the "when is it normal" part of your question.

Babies, all babies, develop at a different rate...a rate that is NORMAL for them. You cannot compare your child to another.

One child may start talking earlier than another or may walk sooner. It doesn't mean that the quiet one isn't normal.

My only suggestion if you are worried, is to make sure you do not give the baby what they want when they grunt or point. I've seen it too many times. A parent gives the baby juice every time they point at a cup (for example), why would the baby learn to ask. There is no need. :)

  6. you may want to associate some signs with words or go to just mommies dot com to see what is age appropriate

  7. i wouldnt call it "normal" but children usually form sentences around 2 2 1/2. I know  the boy I babysit started repeating swear words in full sentances after his dad said things. its more of a they hear, they say type of thing. mnkey see. monkey do...baby hears baby does
