My family and I have been fighting about it, with my son, I moved him around 18 months because he was big for his age. Our baby girl, she is delicate, and not like her brother. She is tall, but petite? Thin. (27. 5 inches tall & 16.6 pounds, where he was 25 inches and 24 pounds . BTW-she is only 11 months right now.)

The fight is about WHEN to move her, I have been told between 15 & 18 months is a good time frame. Please, what are your thoughts?

  1. 18 months

  2. Keep her in the crib until she starts to climb out.  Once they move to a bed you have to worry about them falling, climbing out and where they might go (my 3yo last night decided to walk out the front door!) What's the rush? My son moved around 2.

  3. My daughter is 21 months and I just moved her to a toddler bed a little over a month ago.  Not because of her size or anything, but because she is potty training and needs to be able to get to the potty when she needs to.  She has been doing fantastic in the toddler bed.

  4. I am probably going to get a bunch of thumbs down but here was our policy with our son.

We didn't want a huge gripe or transition from anything...for him to get overly attached to things like bottles, pacifiers, blankets or crib. We started the transition to a cup when he was 7 months old. He never knew what a pacifier was as we never gave him one. We moved him into a toddler bed at 12 months. (with railing). He did fall out a couple of times, but the fall was only 3 inches on to a pad we placed on the floor. I think that is much safer then a fall from a crib feet off the ground when they try to climb out. He loves his independence and enjoys waking up and being able to walk to his door to get us.

It works for some kids and not others. Our son has done beautifully with this and we got our toddler bed from IKEA so it is extra long and has rails built in. Our son is also small, but just caught up to the 50th percentile. But these early transitions made it easier for us and gave him more independence.

As a compromise why don't you change your crib into a day bed and you can purchase an extra high railing at Babies R Us. Or maybe put the mattress on the ground until you feel safe that she won't fall out of bed. Or even a really low to the grown toddler bed.

  5. When there a toddler.Just kidding.Probably about 18 months to 24 months depending on the childs level of capability.Good luck I'm at the same stage with my daughter!!Dont worry your not alone.

  6. The toddler beds I see in the store say your child needs to be at least 15 months so anytime after that.

  7. I think it depends on your individual child.  My oldest was moved at 20 months, and did great.  My youngest is 16 months and not ready for a toddler bed.  We want to move her before baby number 3 comes in March.  Wait and see how mature she is, would she stay in the bed, all of that good stuff.  You are the momma!  You know what is best.

  8. my baby will be 2 in a few weeks, shes still in her crib. She still fine where shes at so we havent moved her yet.

  9. i moved my son around the same age so you are perfect.
