At what age do I no longer have to worry about my child having Autism?

They usually diagnose around 2-3 years of age but when is it safe for some one to say your child definitely does not have autism?

  1. If a child has autism it is usually diagnosed by the time they are 6 years old for most forms of the disorder but for the ones like Aspergers they can be in their teens before they get diagnosed.  Severe forms of autism though are diagnosed by age 3-4 years old and most forms show signs even at birth.

  2. i'm a nursing student.. my professor said that it will be diagnosed by the age of two years of age. the child will get sick / combulsion. and if ever he forgot most things he knows (stuff you taught them) that is the first/one sign that the kid is positive to autism.

  3. autism  is something that is prewired in their genes and sad to say they will always have autism but with good intervention they will acquire coping strategies and when the get to a certain point which is different for everyone and depending on the functioning level the child has then their signs will be less noticeable but they will always have it.

don't worry it will work out.

  4. 4 or 5 if they are making eye contact and smiling and crying at normal times, potty trained (or working on it) and talking you should be good

  5. Usually 18 months, a neurologist can tell you definatively by then.  My oldest 2 sons were dx at 25 months and 9 months, my youngest was definitively assessed as not autistic at 18 months.  For my oldest two there were lots of signs at 12-15 months.  Yes they usually dx between 2-3 but most parents know there are differences way before that.  In my experience for those that are receiving a late diagnosis it is because of the parents denial refusing to have a specialist evaluate the child.  I don't think the severity of the autistic spectrum has anything to do with it.  I got my kids especially my second in very early and he was dx very early even though he is PDD.NOS same as my oldest so they are both high functioning
