At what age do children usually start school in india?

The official age in Government schools is 5 years and over.

But schools run by Catholic Missionaries and other English medium schools have their own rules and children start at the age of 3.5 years.  First two years they spend on LKG and UKG  then year one and so on.

Children in India usually start school at the age of 4. Some start at five, but they don't get to go on to the grade with kids who are their same age level. Even if u r the oldest in class u have to start from the beggining. B4 i came 2 U.S. i used 2 study in I ndia and i started my schooling when i was 4

They start Kindergarten at 4. Which is also called LKG(Lower Kinder Garten) and UKG(Upper) at 5 and Grade 1 or Standard 1 at 6 years
