My 10-year old wants to wear eye shadow I won't let her because I think that's way too young and she looks older than 10 as it is.

Is she getting this from other kids at school?

  1. I started wearing it in eighth grade.  She might be getting it from other girls, I've seen 5-6th graders wearing it, but I think it might be a bit too young.  In any case, if she's really adamant about it, you could help her choose a really neutral tone, or show her that it's really not as great as it sounds.

  2. i would say 13 since your daughter would be a p*****n and it wouldn't look weird for a girl that age to wear makeup

  3. my mom never had any probs with me using make-up, I started using it at seven

  4. most likely she is getting it from the older kids at school. I was not allowed to wear makeup until 13...and even then it was only mascara and lip gloss, and the occasional eyeliner. my plan for my child is if she wants to wear makeup...she has to buy it. and she has to be 13 or older.

  5. mine will be 10 this summer. she can wear lip gloss but that is it.  She doesn't care yet anyway.  she got to wear a little makeup in a couple of weddings & she thought that was cool

  6. Yes she is getting it from kids at school hon.

I remember when I was growing up, the girls had to be at least 16 to wear makeup, but the girls a yr younger thought it was unfair so by the time I got to 7th grade , some of the girls in 6th grade was  starting to wear it although the school said they couldnt. Now yrs later they are wearing it in 4-5th grade.Theyll be wearing it to kindergarten soon with G string underwear and britney spears outfits.

You can thank parents for this.

Stand out though and tell her she isnt going to dress like a hoochie.

  7. i think 11 or 12 with modesty and not to school

  8. it probably is the pressure from her classmates. I know what it's like when your a kid and your parents won't let you be like everyone else. Even if you have good reasons.

I would say gradually increase makeup. If you want, give her tinted lip gloss and maybe very light shades of makeup. Some schools aren't okay with the kids looking like hookers... i still remember those girls. anyways, I would just let her have something small, talk with her and let her know for now you are okay with these things, and if she respects that and uses them appropriately, then she'll gradually be allowed to wear more and more.

  9. maybe you and her should go shopping and pick out light make-up that you both agree on...lip gloss maybe

  10. well i started wearing make up at 13 years old, i think you should only let her wear make up on special occasions like her birthday or special holidays or something, if you start wearing make up at an early age it could ruin your skin, i think you should just tell her only on special occasions!

i sure hope this helped you!

  11. probably.  l(being thirteen myself) am one of the two that doesn't wear makeup in my grade.  You shoul probably let her wear lip gloss now, and eye shadow when she's twelve or so.

  12. I think 13 yr old, or 7th grade is a good age.  That's my timeframe with my daughter.

  13. Yeah, she's probably getting it from her friends. When I was 10, my best friend got to wear make up, but my parents didn't let me until I was 13. I'd say 13 is a pretty good age. Until then, I would stick with light lip gloss and clear mascara. Yeah, they make clear mascara, how cool.

  14. She may just want to play, i remember when i was that age i was allowed to wear any make up i liked, and i soon got bored of it, maybe by letting her, she will not want to so much!

  15. around 13.

  16. 10 is too young. She may be getting it from kids at school, but I would suggest to at least wait until middle school, if not older, because kids need to stay kids as long as possible.

  17. my mom wouldnt let me wear much more than lip gloss till i was 16...by that time i wasnt as interested in makeup

  18. I think at the start of middle school or even 5th grade is a good place to start. I agree 10 is a little young, maybe sparkles or something right now but thats about it.

  19. i'm 16 and think its a waste of time!!!

  20. yeah she is probably getting most of this from school, and television as well. she is 10, and makeup isn't appropriate. lip gloss is like chapstick, i've worn lipgloss forever. eyeshadow is too old for her. she should be happy with nail polish and lip gloss. and the older kids at school are influencing her. their parents let them run crazy, and do anything they want because they want to be the 'cool parents.' she'll thank you when she's older, and now she may not understand, but she neds to be protected. with a face full of makeup, guys may think she's older than she is. um if she wants to look 'older' er 'prettier' maybe ask her about a diff hair style? it mite take her mind off of the need of makeup

  21. She could be, because her friends at school might be wearing make up, so she might want to. In my opinion i would wait until she is 12.

  22. IM 11 AND MY MOM ONLY LETS ME WEAR LIPGLOSS, AND THE 8TH GRADERS IN MY SCHOOL DONT EVEN WEAR EYE SHADOW!!!!!!!!!!

  23. I think girls start mostly wearing make up in middle school though it's very unnecessary.  Also, it may be influenced by TV shows such as Hannah Montana (it seems like Miley Cyrus wears heavy makeup on the show.)

  24. i know when i was 10 my friends were sneaking make-up to school and we would put it on in the bathroom and then take it off before we went home. i eventually got caught.... but i wasn't allowed to wear it until i turned 16... and i was ok with that. to this day i don't wear very much as it is. she's probably just trying to be "cool".

  25. I think I was 11--I wore wayyy too much and it looked awful.  I think once she hits middle school you might start small, like mascara or lip gloss and see how she is handling it.  If she is putting it on lightly, then maybe you can start letting her do more the next few years.

  26. Most of the girls my age (15) started wearing makeup around their early teenage years (12 or somewhere around there).  Her friends probably are starting to wear makeup, that's what influenced me.  If she reads a lot of magazines, she might be influenced by that.

  27. at 10 i say only lipgloss and nail polish and eyeliner

she most likely gets it from tv and celebrities. don't worry this is a normal stage all girls go through.

  28. Golly...I was 13...I think thats acceptable for special occasions but only if it looks natural....10 is too young to wear makeup in public....you could let her have some to practice with..as long as you are sure she wont go out in it.

  29. I started wearing makeup at 12. But only to hide things. not sluttt stuff.

  30. i personally started wearing make up at 13, and it was all neutral tones that weren't intense. If she feels it necessary maybe give here a tinted lip gloss and allow her to just wear mascara? If you just say no she might go behind your back anyway. Make sure you help her though, i remember girls coming to school that did it behind their moms back on the bus and they looked like hookers when they got to school, it was hilarious.

  31. 16 is the appropriate age
