I bought my boys proper shorts with flies *before* they started at school and made sure that they knew how to unzip them and so on at home.

That meant that they didn't have problems when they were away from me at school.

So to answer your question - about three or four.

my little boy 4 and will be starting full time school in september.im learning him now for when he starts school as there are alot older boys and id rather he didnt pull his trousers down  

by the way my son has been going to the toilet since 2yrs ,he used to pull his pants down a little to wee wheres now im teaching him to undo his zip and pop him out.

I never taught my son 9 year old that.  I think its something that boys learn on their own, cause he does that now.
