  1. hi, cats remain really active until they reach adulthood, which is 2 yrs old. Even then they are still pretty active & fiesty, they do slow down, but not completely.

  2. It just kind of depends on the individual cat, but by eight months he should be calmed down significantly.  I know that seems like a long time when you have a little terror in your house.  Fourteen weeks is the age where their cute little kitten antics can start to get out of hand and he can start breaking things.  Start off now teaching him things that he is not allowed to do, like jumping on counters and tables, or scratching on your furniture.

  3. AFTER spaying / neutering.

  4. Spaying can make cats calmer, if their agitation (and yowling and etc.) are caused by being in heat, or by having female cats in heat nearby. So the kittens would have to be in puberty before it would make a difference.

But kittens are hyper anyway, like all young carnivores. The playing helps sharpen their hunting instincts and abilities. It will settle out eventually. Pretty soon you will wish your cats were as playful and amusing as they were when they were kittens. If you can, go to a zoo and watch a mother tiger or lion with her baby cubs. The cubs usually annoy the heck out of her.

If there are specific things they are doing that are destructive, like clawing the furniture, you can train them not to do it. But trying to keep them from being hyper overall would be like asking plants not to grow leaves.
