At what age group can you buy shares?

i want to buy shares in a company but i am only 18 yrs old, am i liable to buy shares at that age and what amount can i buy?

  1. Certainly 18 is old enough.  You can buy the lesser of the shares that are available to be bought or the number of shares you can afford.

    You can OWN shares at any age.  I'm not sure how young you can be and actually purchase shares yourself.  Opening a brokerage account may be an issue if you are not an adult (at least 18).

I'm sure 18 is OK to buy shares you can do this through your bank now although in the past you were introduced to a stock broker, as when I had some shares there was a certain amount of trust involved, as the broker would buy shares on your behalf on a phone call, and then you would pay on a set date ( this meant you could actually buy and sell shares very quickly) the shares take some time to be registered to you, but your bank will give you all the information and advise you need  do not borrow money to buy your shares as this could end in disaster. good luck.
