  1. The real answer is 11. 11 year olds can also babysit, but they have to get a certification.

  2. 13

  3. 12

  4. Legally there is no age in WI, only two state have minimum age laws (Illinois and Maryland)

  5. In most states the age is 12 years old.  I know Ohio law states they must be atleast 12 years old to babysit including with siblings.

  6. The common assumption is that legal age is 12-13, not true...there is NO legal age written anywhere that says a child of * age can stay home alone or babysit a sibling.  Child Protective Service states that you as a parent knows you child better than anyone else and if you feel that you child is responsible enough to care for himself and a sibling and knows emergency numbers and what to do in case of emergency's (fire, etc.) then the state is fine with it.  My 12 year old may be different that your 12 year old it depends on the maturity level.

My ex husband  has called CPS on me so many times I can not count and one of them was him trying to turn me in for leaving my kids home alone they were 8and 10 only home for about 20 minutes and we lived in a very close nit community etc. etc. and that information is what the worker gave me she talked to the kids over the phone and asked them what to do iin caseof a fire, who to call if something happens and she was cool with it.  So use your best ddiscretionas a parent and ddon'tlet anyone tell you different only you know your child.  I started out in short inincrements going to the corner store and seeing how they would do, that kind of thing.  That was 4 years ago and I think it makes them mature and responsible.
