I have a 4 year old daughter who is semi tall for her age and she still uses the crib that turns into toddler bed(it also can turn into a full size, but its too big that way. ) The toddler bed is getting too small for her. I want to get a loft bed with drawers and booksleves for her, but I don't know if shes a good age for one.

  1. Manufacturers recommend age 6.

  2. I would say 5. My son just turned 4 and he still uses his crib that turns into a toddler bed. I told him I would buy him his bunk beds when he turns 5 and he is very excited!

  3. You should aim to get one of those beds which aren't very high up. There is ALWAYS the risk that your four year old could fall out, even though they come with safety barriers, she could easily climb over the top and hurt herself by falling off.

You can get beds which are quite high above the ground where you can fit those drawers underneath. You can even get some which look like this:

That's not very high so even if your daughter did fall out, she wouldn't seriously hurt herself (it would be unlikely).

I think this height and style would be perfect for a little girl: it's not too high up and has storage underneath, as well as being like a mini play centre:

  4. My daughter just turned 5 and she has a bunk bed.

  5. The warning label on my son's bunkbeds says 6 for the top bunk, but he turned six in April and is still not sleeping up there.  I'm worried that if he wakes up in the night to go to the bathroom, he won't remember he's on the top bunk.  He's not in any rush to sleep up top yet, either, but he likes to take his stuffed animals up there and play during the daytime.

  6. our avatars are the same!!!!! lol

im not really sure what your answer is though, my children are too young..

  7. If your child has moved out of the crib to a normal bed with no guard rails; and if he does not make a habit out of falling out of bed at night; and if he does what you say most of the time; then he is ready for either the top or the bottom.  He will decide which is best for him and his sleepover guest will be happy to take the other.

  8. My kids were 3 and 7 when I bought my bunk beds.  I made sure they had the rails on the sides though so they wouldn't fall off (on top or bottom).  The bottom ones were add on's that I just got in Walmart in the toddler section because I didn't want her falling off the bottom bunk either.  As long as you keep safety in mind and tell your kids it is not a jungle gym I think you will be fine :)  Good luck!

  9. I would say five is a perfect  for this. They are just wanting there independence at this age.
