Should you keep them longer after they are completely weaned for social development, etc?

  1. For some kittens 8 weeks seems to be OK.  But the best time is after 12 weeks, lots of Mom time and interacting with each other.

    Good Luck!

  2. Yes! It's best to keep them till at least 12 weeks before they find a new home. Then they're weaned and on their way to indepedance, and have much more "cat" skills.

  3. A kitten should stay with its mother for an absolute minimum of eight weeks and preferably 12 weeks. Although they may be "weaned" prior to eight weeks, they will still have the occasional need to nurse. Kittens taken from their mom cats before this time often develop nursing behavior on themselves, other cats, humans, or fabric, and these habits will often continue throughout adulthood.

They also need this time to learn proper cat behavior from their mother cat, including use of the litter box, socializing with humans and other cats.

The time they spend with their mother and siblings is very important. Think about how you would have turned out if you were taken away from your parents too soon, and didn’t have the proper role model to learn from. Often kittens that are separated from their mother too soon, will be very shy, and have social problems with other animals as well as humans.

  4. 8 weeks.

  5. From what I have heard, minimum is 7 weeks before leaving mom and many, many folks recommend at least 12 weeks.  My vet actually told me 7 weeks because they are usually weened by then, but I know that 12 weeks is a popular age for various psycho-social development issues.

  6. Eight weeks minimum - ten to twelve weeks, better.

Please get them spayed or neutered BEFORE you give them away.  Kittens can be spayed or neutered once they're two pounds in weight and eight weeks in age.  It's bad enough you killed local cats and kittens at your local shelter with this litter.  Let it end there - don't allow these kittens to breed as well.

  7. I would wait until they are about 12 weeks old.

They seem to do better if they are not taken away from the mother too soon
