Actually I have lived on my own since I was 18 but still had to report my parent's income because you have to unless you are a certain age but I forgot what age that is.

  1. but you could have done it earlier if you weren't living under their support.

  2. As you work your way through the FAFSA form, you will reach Question 48-55 - these are the FAFSA questions that establish your dependency status.

Question 48 asks "Were you born before January 1, 1995?", if you answer "yes" to that question (which presumably you will), and/or any of the other questions in this section, you will automatically advance to Question 90 - skipping past all of the questions that ask about parental income.

Congratulations! For FAFSA and federal student aid purposes, you are qualified as an independent student, and you are therefore qualified for a higher amount of financial aid.

    Hope that helped!

  3. As far as I know, the cut off age is 24. There are about 5 questions in particular that are asked on the FAFSA form to determine dependency or not. Good luck!

  4. age 24 is the cut off. so when you apply for fafsa next year you will not need to include your parent's income.
