  1. It does not matter what age you are.  As long as the account is over 5 years old and it is considered a first time home purchase you wont pay a penalty on the EARNINGS.  You can take your contributions out at any time for any reason without any taxes or penalties.  


  2. A Roth IRA is a retirement in which contributions are made AFTER taxes are paid.  HOWEVER, withdrawals are tax-free once the account has been opened 5 years.  The biggest advantage of a Roth IRA is that you can withdraw your contributions (not the interest earned) at any time without penalty or tax
