He is now 13 months old and just started cow's milk. He had some stomach problems at first, but now he seems ok with it. Now that he is on cow's milk I am wondering when he should be off of the bottle and only on a sippy cup. Now or later? When did you ween your baby?

  1. Totally up to you and the baby.

The claims that bottles cause the need for braces has been disproven in all but a very few cases. Most crooked teeth is the result of genetics, mouthbreathing and unconscious tongue thrust.  Twenty years they've been harping on this unproven claptrap and the number of children getting braces has not gone down as it should have had bottles been the cause.

The bottle caries problem is related to formula (which contains corn syrup) and the endless juice that kids are given today. They can still have bottle caries from a sippy cup if that is all they are given.

  2. Let him quit when he is ready; just don't offer him the bottle. He will quit by himself; typically they do this in their on their own in the 2nd or 3rd year.  It is such a brief period in the big picture; why raise a fuss over weaning early?

  3. You can actually get him on a sippy cup now if you want.   For a month after her first birthday, we did both bottle and sippy cups.  Then, one fine day, my wife just up and tossed every bottle we had into the recycling bin and got rid of them all in one fell swoop.

    It worked.

She was completely bottle free before her 14th month birthday.

  4. MOST PEOPLE SAY AROUND ONE BUT I WENT TO THE DOCTOR THE OTHER DAY WITH MY 15 MONTH OLD AND THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT HE WOULDNT RUSH IT SHE IS ON A SIPPY CUP ONLY NOW. BUT HE SAYS LONG AS THERE NOT GOING TO BED WITH IT AND SLEEPING WITH IT IN THERE MOUTH ALL NIGHT THEY WILL BE OKAY AND IT WONT MESS UP THERE TEETH

  5. I started giving mine the sippy cup at 10months. And took the bottle away at 12 months. Then at 2 years i started with a cup. I have a 5 year old and a 2 1/2 year old who is both doing wonderfully with cups now and been off the bottle for awhile. Both have excellent teeth and no bottle rot which is becoming all to common today and not a real concern because they lose their baby teeth. But come on...They still have to take care of baby teeth!

  6. My son started on sippy cups when he was 10 mos old. The earlier you can wean him off, the better.

  7. Generally most people start with a sippy cup around 6 mos and try to wean the baby by 12 mos, or shortly thereafter.

  8. I

started both my kids on sippy cups when they turned 2 and it is good not to start them to early or to late so i thought that 2 would be perfect and it is

  9. My doctor recommend any time between 12 months and 18 months.  We got our daughter off the bottle at about 15 months.  She was very attached to it, but after two weeks she was completely fine.  You can try it gradually or all at once.  It is your choice.

  10. My nephew was off the bottle by 7 months, along with most of the kids in my family. As soon as they can hold the sippy cup, we give it to them & teach them to use it instead of a bottle.
