Question:

At what age should women stop having children?

I am not having anymore after the age of 30 cause I want to see my kids grow up and get married.

I think having a child late in life denies the child of having his parents around for a longer period of time.

Thoughts?

  1. I used to think that if I hadn't had a child by 30 I wasn't going to have any.  I tried for 6 years and had accepted that it wasn't going to happen, now I have my first child, who was born a couple of months before my 31st birthday.  I am open to having another child in the next 5 years.  I personally don't think I would want to have any after 40, but it really depends on the individual couples involved.  I know that I was not ready prior to having my daughter and am glad she came at this age.  I look forward to having another and enjoying their lives for a very long time.

  2. im only 13 and my dad is 59 , his parents are 85 , and hes deffinatally gonna watch me get married (: 30 was around the time i wanted to have babies . and if your 35 and have a baby , in 20 more years youll only be 55. you would have plenty of time to watch your kids grow up (: i think you should have another baby (:

  3. I agree with your point but 30 is still young! My mother was 30 when she had me and I'm the eldest.  Many people choose to have children later on due to careers etc, it's really down to personal choice but I do think anything over mid-forties is a little unfair on the child. I had my son at 19 and am now doing the career thing, it's good b/c I still have many years left if I do have another and my son will hopefully have his mummy around for a long time, I'll only be 30 when he's 10!

  4. I agree with you! Have them young! I had my first when I was 21 and second when I was 23, best choice I have ever made! I want to be young and grow with my children!

  5. I'm not having more after 30 because I started at 18. A 12 year gap is as big as I'm willing to do.

  6. i totally agree!

i am going to be 27. i have a four year old. If I dont have another by the time i am 30 then its "cut tubes" for me :)

I dont want to find myself having a hard time keeping up with my children b/c of age...but, I guess thats where diet and exercise come into play huh?

  7. I'm having my first at 33 and I couldn't be happier with our decision to wait as long as we did.  Being a little older, I'll be able to stay at home w/ my baby and not worry about money.  Plus, I feel like I've accomplished a lot w/ my career and I'm ready to be a mom.  However, this will be our only baby.  I won't get pregnant once I turn 35.  The risk of having problems increases dramatically at 35 and every year thereafter.

  8. 37

  9. I both agree and disagree.  My mom was 38 and my dad was 43 when I was born, and they both died when I was 24 years old.  I am the youngest child, I have 2 older brothers and 2 older sisters who are 19, 18, 16, and 11 years older than I am so I was kind of an "oops" baby.  I really wish my parents could have met my husband, and my 4 beautiful children.  I do think in some cases though that older parents can be wonderful, and many people do not get married until later in life these days, and I would never want to discourage any older couples trying for a baby. I am now 36 years old (had my oldest child at age 30), but I had 4 years of college and 8 years of working before I decided to be a stay at home mom, and we are more financially stable than many younger parents. My mom had her youngest at age 19, and was a grandmother at age 38. But at age 36 I am sure I am done with having children-my sister's best friend had her first baby at age 50-that is way too old!

  10. late 30s

  11. Women should have children at whatever age they feel is best for them. If a woman has a child before she is ready just because she feels it's better to have children at a younger age, then she will not be the best mother that she can be to them.

Also, I completely take issue with your entire premise. This is not the stone ages - the average life expectancy in the US is near 80 years old and is only getting longer. If a woman has a child in her 30s, she is likely to see her children reach their 50s at least.
