  1. same as b4. but the horse b4 that was seabuiscut i think who raced until he was 10(?)

  2. Just read that piece referred to above. The horse was 31 when he fell down a hole not when he won his last race.

The only candidate I can think of is Sonny Somers who, I seem to recall, might have won his last steeplechase at the age of 18.

Later: The oldest winning horses are 18-year-old Revenge at Shrewsbury, England 1790; Marksman at Ashford, Kent, England, 1826; and Jorrocks at Bathurst, Australia, 1851. At the same age, Wild Aster won three hurdle races in 1919, and Sonny Somers won two steeplechases in February 1980.

  3. a horse called mc vidi won a steeplechase at the age of 15

  4. Eddie D may well be right, I am not sure who the oldest horse to win was.  Good old Spotthedifference was 14 when he won at Cheltenham a few weeks ago.

The oldest winner of a Group 1 race was Mark Johnston's Yavannas Pace who won the Credit Suisse Private Banking Pokal in Germany aged 10.

  5. The oldest race horses to win in flat races were "Revenge" in 1790, "Marksman" in 1826 and "Jorrocks" in 1851, all aged 18 years old. "Wild Aster" won hurdle races in 1919 and "Sonny Somers" won two steeplechases in 1980, both horses were also 18 years old.

  6. IIRC, the horse's name was "Jay-Eye-See", named after his owner's initials J.I.C. , or Jerome Increase Case.

The horse lived to 31 years of age.
