  1. Every child is different.  You can't say there is a "normal" age to do that.

My sister and I were reading on our own, and writing, at 2 & 3 years old respectively.  Our children, on the other hand weren't reading until kindergarten, although they were writing at 3.

  2. That's about right. I would say they should be doing that by 5. Kids vary, but around 5 they should be able to write 1-10 and all the letters.

  3. Wow!  Good job mom!  Don't neglect his physical development.  He really needs to run and jump and climb and play too!  Take him for walks, take him swimming, take him to the playground.  At this early age, he needs social interaction and physical activity as much as he needs intellectual learning.

  4. Good For you

  5. My cousin learned how to read at 4 years, but this is not true for all children

  6. Depends on the child and how much the parent and pre-school work with them.

My daughter is 20 months and although she can't write letters and numbers, she is starting to recognize them.

  7. Age 3 is very good.  Knew a kid once who knew the alphabet/number line when he was only 3, and could also say all the numbers in Spanish.

  8. 4 yrs is the actual age when a child can acctually understand writing and the physical changes in hand and grip the pencil properly

  9. Your child should be able to write the alphabet and numbers from about 1-20 almost perfeclty before he goes into first grade. In Kindergarten, he'll learn to perfect each letter and also to recognize them.

  10. Thats good to know. They can learn at any age if they aren't forced into it by their parents. Putting pressure on a kid just makes them not want to learn at all.

  11. At any age.  Some kids learn at 3 or 4 others may be 5 or 6 but eventually they all get it.  Just like walking, talking, its another one of those developmental milestones.
