I'm just wondering what age you would be ok with seeing your kid drink. By saying kid I don't mean like your offspring. Not really saying its ok for kids to drink.

I went to a party last night and there was 16 year old kids there and their parents were fine that they were trashed(we left very fast once we realized that at a party)...now my parents came over to the house we might buy (house sitting for my boyfriends grandparents) And I made my mom a drink. And gave my dad a beer...Finally they were ok with me drinking. Mean while I'm almost 21 and have been moved out for almost 2 years. And my boyfriend is almost 23 and my father and him drink alot together....

  1. I would drink with my kids when they are 21. I wouldn't get really drunk-unless we had some kind of good excuse! LOL

I would be fine with having a rum and diet coke with my girls when they are legal adults.

The only time I can see them drinking any sooner is if we visit a country where it is legal.

I might give them a small glass of wine for their graduation party when they're older. Who knows? I'll have to see how responsible they are in 8 to 12 years. :)

  2. When he's legal age.

  3. 18+ here in England, but I'd be happy with my kids drinking from 15 onwards, as long as they aren't 'over-doing' it.

Hey, I'm no better - I did it.

  4. My parents slowly introduced me to alcohol when I was young, about 8 or so, and I think it helped me be more responsible about drinking when I was of age. I plan on doing the same with my kids, maybe a few years older but there is nothing wrong with a sip of mom's wine or a sip of dad's beer now and then. I was never allowed to pour my own drinks or drink alone and of course they monitored what I drank and how much so that I didn't get out of hand. My father and I still drink together and its time I really cherish because we feel comfortable enough with each other, and we're good friends because of it. We're not drunks- we're just sociaable, haha! But as long as you teach your kids to be responsible, mature and smart, I think its fine to give them a little sip here and there when they're young, even if it is illegal.

  5. Not until they're adults.  I wouldn't want to sit back and watch my teenager get wasted, and I certainly wouldn't be providing the alcohol or the money for alcohol.

  6. well its legal for you to drink IF your 21. so depends how close you are to that age. but your parents CANNOT control you at all. if you want to drink, drink all you want, they have ZERO, NOTTA, NONE, NO control over you.

  7. I'd say 21+ a legal drinking age is fine.

  8. don't drink

  9. I am mom to 4 kids who are now 29, 26, 23, and 11.  I don't drink much, but I didn't do any drinking "with" my kids until they reached legal age of 21.  I have attended numerous back yard bbq's, graduation parties, wedding receptions, etc. where parents have not been concerned about underage drinking.  For my husband and I, though, we did not approve of it and our children respected that.  One of our specifically written out house rules was no consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages in our home, on our property, or in our vehicles until aged 21.  We have alcoholics in our family and our children knew that they needed to be old enough to realize the potential dangers with alcohol both of being intoxicated plus the very real risk of alcoholism.  I am, of course, realistic and was once a teenager myself, so I know that each of my older children did drink before they reached 21 and I imagine my 11 year old will at some point in time, too.  We are open and honest with our kids and our oldest 3 have all confessed to having underage drinks, where they had them, and what happened when they did drink.  They have talked openly with their baby sister as well so I think she has the advantage of words of wisdom from older siblings, all of whom she admires greatly.

  10. They would have to be whatever the legal drinking age is. Personally I don't like the loss of control and making an idiot of yourself that goes with drinking too much so I won't be drinking with either of my kids unless its a toast at some special function. I don't want to see them making fools of themselves either.

  11. I am perfectly comfortable having a drink with my children once they came of drinking age. I rarely drink myself.

When I as a senior in hs, my parents allowed me to have a keg party for my 17th birthday.........18 was the legal age back then. This was the 60's and it was pretty common for kids to have house parties with their parents permission when they were still minors. Then again, a DUI was unheard of and you could actually ride in a car while drinking and get pulled over...........all you would get was a ticket for having an open container. NEVER a DUI! Times have changed.

  12. It will be hard enough for me when he is 21, so hopefully never, but legal age is the youngst.
