At what depth does a fish pond become a pool and need a fence in Australia. A friend has just had her hubby dig a fish pond its 6 feet deep and 5 feet wide and 9 feet long is it safe i think is should have a pool fence

  1. Don't know about Australia but here in California 18" is the limit for obvious reasons.  The ponds can be constructed the same way as in ground gunite pools are with re bar, plumbing and gunite per code.

I think that pools and ponds are made differently.  Pools are rectangular and are usually made out of cement and stuff...they are usually 25m or 50m long.  Ponds are usually circular and are naturally made or has dirt walls.  It doesn't matter how deep it is, but what it's made of or made like.  It might be different in Australia, but I'm not sure.  I hope this helped.

  3. I would put a fence around it (with a lock) and if it is 6 foot deep everywhere a sturdy ladder to get out of it.  Ask your friend and their hubby if they accidentally fell in, how easy would it be to get back out.  If they are in an area that has children.....well I don't think I need to go there now do I?
