I recently saw this stunt gun online that produces 2.5 million volts of electricity, but how much will that harm an attacker ??

If you guys are wondering why, well i'm doing reaserch

on stunt guns and plan on purchasing one for self-defense........

there's quite alot of violence around my neighborhood

and walking is no longer recommended around the

south L.A. area neighborhoods during nightfall.

  1. Trooper and Nightrider both make some valid points.

2.5 million volts will make small burn marks on the skin, and you need to be within arms reach.  Amps, not volts, is what does the trick.  Also, the cyclic rate is important.

Go to Taser.com and check out the specs on the C-26.  It is a small civilian model Taser that shoots the probes 15 feet, and has a 20 to 30 second firing mode.  It is designed to allow the victim to Taser the suspect, drop the weapon on the ground, and run to safety.  If the victim makes a police report and forwards a copy to Taser, they will replace the Taser for free.  50,000 volts, milliamps, time to flee, and 15 feet away.  What more could you ask for?

  2. Voltage will not harm, other than possibly a small burn where the electrical contacts touch your skin.

All it will do is cause intense pain to the contact site. A 2.5 million volt gun will probably not produce a whole lot of noticeable pain over a model with less voltage.

  3. It should be enough to get them to stop messing with you except they only work as long as your arm is, and when was walking around South L.A recommended.

  4. What is a "stunt" gun?  Do you mean stun gun?

  5. As Trooper said above me ( and he is totally correct), the only physical damage is small burn marks if the electrodes are in contact with bare skin.

I just want to add a little bit more here. What harms ( or kills) is amperage. As little as 2 amps can be lethal. Stun ( not stunt) guns are in milliamps and are not fatal. Even with a pacemaker.

The way a stun gun works is by nerve induction. The civilian models will cycle between 14-17 cycles per second. The Police models cycle between 22-25 per second. What this means is that you place the stun gun near a nerve center ( center chest, side of the body by the arm pit or in the gluteous max ( or butt)). These are all very heavy with nerve endings.

Let us say you use a center chest stun. You have approximately 1200 nerve endings here. The stun gun will send 20 messages in one second to each of those nerve endings. All these messages will be sent to the brain at the same time. It basically overloads the brain to the point that it cant function and it just shuts down for a moment.

The effect is the person drops to the ground unconcious. They will come around very quickly, but it gives you time to escape. The downside of the stun gun is you need to maintain a physical contact against the body ( putting you within their striking distance) plus if they are wearing heavy clothing ( such as in cold weather), the electrical impulse may not go through to the skin.

If you are shopping for a stun gun, look at the cyclic rate, not the voltage. It is the cycles per second that is going to make it work.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

  6. Most "stun" guns are worthless.  You have to be within arms reach of your assailant.  For most people that is too close.  Stun guns scare people well but I have taken them and put them on my chest and leg and yes they cause a muscle spasm and a little pain but I was not "stunned".  A taser on  the other hand has a 15 foot shot for the civilian version.  You shoot the attacker drop the taser and run and hope he can't get up for a while, which they usually don't.  If a firearm is a viable option for you I would look into that.
