Question:

At what level of AST should you start worrying?

I had a blood test about a month ago and just recently got the results... and they were a 51... it didn't occur to me to ask what that meant.... but she did say it was nothing i should be really worried about and told me to make a appointment with the nutrionist.... but i do want to know when should i get worried??? what is a bad AST level???

  1. AST can be elevated in MANY instances.  AST is normally found in red blood cells, liver, heart, muscle tissue, pancreas, and kidneys.  When there is disease or damage to one of those things, then the enzyme is released.  If it is only a ONE TIME result, then not to worry.  You may have just had one too many cocktails (harming your liver) or injured one of your muscles.  

    If it's PERSISTENT, then it needs to be investigated further.  You should get tested again and see what the result is.  Take care!
