Question:

At what point can you call a psychic a psychic?

I am just riding on the tide of Deenie's questions before..

Just as there are scientists in a vast number of faculties, there too are psychic practictioners from a vast number of faculties. I do not think there is one test available to test all psychic abilities just as there is no one test that will determine if a scientist is actually a scientist. How do you differentiate between a neurologist & an oncologist? Surely they have to pass different tests! Is it possible to come up with a test to differentiate between the abilities of a tasseographer & psychometrist? Or a graphologist and tarot reader?

Also, because I have never seen auras, does that mean then that I am not psychic? Not all scientists can practice in every scientific avenue there is and in the same way, not all psychics practice in every 'psychic' faculty there is. At last count, my class at college listed 97 different forms of divination. Can anyone come up with one test to give to all self-proclaimed psychics?

  1. If they answer your questions before you ask, that would convince me!

  2. What you're essentially saying is that there are as many kinds of psychics as there are people who claim to be psychics.  This is not the case with scientists, physicians, engineers within a clearly defined discipline.  So step one is to define what you can do and then demonstrate your ability to do it.

I will call a psychic a psychic when he is able to predict the future in a verifiable fashion, under controlled conditions in a manner distinct from guessing.  Not vague guesses or generalities here.  I want actual, factual events.  You know, dates, names, etc.  This "I see the letter M" stuff is nothing more than guessing.  "You will find love soon" is non-specific.

  3. You can't test psychics in the manner you are suggesting because, as you rightly point out, there is no one definition of psychic.

One person might claim to read auras, and the other chi (I don't know about specifics - I'm talking from an empirical background).

Therefore if you set the same test for both one could claim that "oh yes - that would work fine for auras but chi doesn't work like that". Do you see what I mean.

The James Randi Challenge tries to tailor the test to suit the ability and so far no-one has passed it.

This suggests that psychics can call themselves psychic whenever they like because either:

    a) you can't test psychic ability in lab conditions so there is no way to "prove" you're a psychic.

    b) They're making it up.

Personally I think it's B, but you can see the argument still stands for A.

  4. After many 'anecdotal' stories that have no other logic, than that it was impossible to have happened.  The pram that stops, all of a sudden, in the middle of the down hill run.  No person in sight.  But the witness accross the road saw a man in a blue jacket.  If tooooooo many of those things happen you can call them/he/she psychic.      Peace.

  5. From what I gather, people call themselves "psychic" if they think they have psychic powers. There doesn't appear to be any other certification, no college degree, etc.  Basically, if you think you're psychic, then you are one. Of course, that doesn't have any bearing on whether you really do have actual psychic powers or not.

From my perspective, I can't call a psychic a psychic until they give a convincing demonstration of their powers under controlled conditions, and so far this has not happened.

  6. I agree 100% with Luma. You become a psychic by calling yourself one.All you need is an understanding of human nature.Read up on cold reading. Then find some gullible folks and away you go.You can't go wrong, you"ll always find someone that will believe anything.

  7. There are also "psichics" zombified by psichics- I have close neighbour that had been treated in psichiatry -now he pretends be a medium and he is involved in gypsies black magik- all this came after he was on thereapy and then he visited clairvoyants for telling him future.

My other neighbours are also peretending be "psichics"- they are using computer with "healing" programs- indeed being connected to some sects with aggressive business goals/ they are tourmenting all around and are guilty for many broken lifes/.

So - "psichics'... is dangerous notion if not quite clear.

  8. when you dont understand what hes saying when he talks to u. hes just answering the questions u have in future.

  9. No.  After all, is there one defining test or question to measure intelligence?  There are many kinds of aptitude or intelligence, just as there are many kinds of pyschic abilities which we all have to some extent.

Everyone is psychic.  Our souls have access to the One soul, and through it we can know things.

But because our souls can communicate with our hearts but have no connection to our body or conscious minds, it uses the subconscious to create false positive readings, as they were.

Example.  Person in front of you has very bad energy.  You heart and soul want to get away, but your mind doesn't get it.  If you were visually oriented, you might "see" a sickly brown colored aura.  Instead, maybe your subconscious gives you "feelings" like pin pricks up and down your arms, or makes your hairs stand on end.  Or maybe you "hear" buzzing noises, like flies all around, or electricity, like near a power line.  Or maybe you'd get the impression that this person "smells" like sewage or wet dog.

I've been told that answering a question before it was asked is just plain rude, not psychic at all!

  10. psychic is an umbrella term that covers many things

and I believe that everyone is psychic to a degree

so to do testing on an individual , the test must be designed around that person and their abilities

so I am not sure there is any one test that would cover everyone

  11. seriously who ever thinks they are PSYCHIC are insane, no one is a pyschic
