At what point do we as citizens stand up to make things better here in America?

At this moment in history, the stakes are too high and the challenges too great to play the same Washington game with the same Washington players and expect a different result.

  1. What is your plan?

I would start by reading the following:

Robert F Kennedy and the death of american idealism.

    You?

You can't control the actions of others? See what I meam hence the titl of the above book.  We've all been copted into this 80s self help op psych thing that says we just have to accept thigns cuz we can't change them.  They used to call that apthy not acceptance.

Influence is a leigitmate form of informal power and it is real.  We can change the actions of others via this form of power and others.

  2. Before we stand up, I think we first need to sit down.

Sit down and think about the Constitution and the events leading up to it.   Read the Declaration of Independence.  Think about the political status of the individual colonies at the moment of independence.  Think about the status of the individuals who attended the Constitutional Convention.  Think about the nature of the document that is the Constitution.

Sit down and consider each and every line of the Constitution.   What does the document say, as a whole? Who has the power to do what? What are the areas that we can look to the federal government for, and which areas are simply not in there at all? Who is left responsible for those things not found in it?

Then we need to sit down and listen to those who would wield the power of the offices described in the Constitution, and judge them on their apparent familiarity with the tasks described. Which ones are promising to go far beyond the limitations of the offices they seek?

That's the point when we could stand up and make things better.   Until then, we're more likely to make things worse by voting for someone who is asking for our vote because of his willingness to totally ignore the Constitution.

  3. Tear it all apart and start with the original plans. Ok keep a few of the amendments, like Voting, Equal Rights, a majority of Supreme Court Decisions.

Ban the lobbyists. Or make it unprofitable for them to pursue there wants. Yes lobbying is good for a good cause, but the for profit and corporate ones are a lose lose for the Majority.

We do this every time that we vote, and it is counted correctly.

  4. Well, I'm one that believes that there's nothing that "man" can do to change things in America or anywhere else.  You can't control the actions of others, so what makes "one man/woman" in any country think that he can control a nation of people.  Just doesn't make sense to me.

They can't prevent crime from happening no matter how much man power they put on the streets to (so called) "protect and serve" when you have officers committing just as many crimes as the criminals.

They can't stop homelessness unless they intend on making "Decent" jobs available for "All" people and I don't mean jobs paying 10 bucks and hour... That's only bus fare, so I won't dare discuss how ridiculous minimum wage is. Theirs too much greed amongst politicians even for those politicians who truly want to do what's right for the people.  The problem there is that you may have one politician to pass a bill for the better good of the country, but you'll have the others to knock it off the table before it can even be presented to congress for discussion. We could talk all day about this and still be no closer to a resolution as if you never asked the question.

The only changes you can make is within your own immediate surroundings and that's even a challenge because it still comes down to the simple fact that although you may want to make a change for the better, you can't make others, not even your closest friends or family do what "YOU" want them to do.  You can share your idea's with them and they may agree, but it's the action that's taken that will determine the outcome.

  5. Im neither republican or Democrat.

But since republicans havent been doing a good job for the past 8 years Im going with Those democrats.

But pick the one who has a pretty good track record.

    Obama or Clinton?

Clinton has been in politics for quite awhile around the same time obama was still a child.

Plus Bill Clinton wasnt that bad of a president besides his personnel things he was a decent president.

Also Im pretty sure it wasnt just him calling the shots but his wife, If you look at the things bill has been saying about his wife campaign hes an idiot, but somehow a smart idiot.

    Soo vote Clinton

  6. you are expecting to much out of a president...a president can go into office with the best of intentions...but congress and the house can s***w it up...if you want change and hope...get those players in congress and the house out...until then...same song different verse

  7. Unfortunately, but understandably, we stand up when negative things start to affect us directly.  With the economy, health care, education costs and the Iraq war doing just that, turnout this year will break all records by a very large margin. We may differ on which candidate is the best to solve the problems, but we will turn out in a big way from now until November.

  8. People don't stand up to make things better precisely because things are not as bad as some people would like to believe.

No, it's not a perfect society, but most people are fairly satisfied with their lives.  Sure, I'd love to see a more libertarian government myself, but it's not like I feel a need to start an armed revolution.  I have continued to prosper no matter what president or party is in power in this country.  I still have far more control over my own life than the federal government does.

I'm doing my part at the neighborhood level...doing what I can to make my neighborhood better.  Biting off just what I can chew, as it were.

  9. it is the morale downfall in this country. it is also the media, that the common man is ill informed and thus ignorant.

  10. I agree.  Mitt Romney is the Washington outsider with proven business and government leadership experiance.

  11. Patriotism is a lot of the time about dissenting your government. Things can never be so good that the government can operate without us, so, always is a good time to make things better.

  12. Election day would be that point.

  13. When?

On the day after the first Monday of November in even numbered years.

    That's when you stand up.

  14. Vote for a Democrat.

That will be a step in the right direction.

  15. You have answered your own question.

    RIGHT NOW!

For starters, vote Obama and help him get elected. Once he is in the White House, you can start working on the creation or the promotion of a new party pushing people who truly are different.

  16. VOTE
