  1. People will only quit buying gas when they are no gas left to buy.  Ask yourself how much are you willing to pay to travel 20 miles and save that amount of time?  I guess my price would be 11 dollars, maybe even higher.  But I guess if it reaches 15 dollars I will quit my job and I will bike to school.

  2. In China and India, the price of gas is subsidized by the government of those countries.  That means the people only pay a small amount and the government pays the rest for them.  The traders figured that since the government is paying, they should jack up the price of oil as high as possible and make huge profits.  Can't blame someone for wanting to make money.  Unfortunately our government does not pay for us, instead they make us pay taxes on top of already crazy prices.  So as long as those countries pay subsidies we will be paying high prices, but I doubt they can afford to pay forever.  Once they quit, prices will come back to normal.

  3. Haven't you been reading the papers?

While very few of us have stopped driving private transportation, many of us have "trimmed back".

For example, last year I filled my tank once a week, but this year I am filling it up once every other week.

Now part of this has been working on my cars and increasing the mileage by 3 miles  per gallon on one of them and 6 mpg on another.

I am not alone in this I am sure.

  4. ill pay for it even when it's at $10!  And, so will you
