Question:

At what point does the length of a daily commute become excessive?

I used to commute two hours round trip, via auto or motorcycle, each day to work. I am now fortunate enough to live closer to my workplace and enjoy a 10-15 minute commute by car or bicycle in 20 minutes.

However, I have a better job opportunity available now. The down side is a 35 minute commute each way by auto/moto. I have a family and enjoy the extra time with them. But this could be a good opportunity.

So...where do you all draw the line when it comes to commute times?

  1. when the comute becomes stressfull every day.i travel 50 min. one way.more than 1 hr i think is exsessive.stay as close to wok as possible15 extra minutes is nothing ,you are lucky but that means you will allways need a car.this will bring more stress into your life.your family will get that stress.

  2. That is definitely a decision for you & the family to discuss.

There are always pros and cons:  more/less money; more/less opportunities for family members; company; relatives, etc.  Why not make a get-to-gether with the family and discuss.

You know, my husband has been commuting with 4 others for 3 hours round-trip over the past 5 years.  To him & me, it's worthwhile.  Definitely a personal choice:)
