A lot of Dodger fans are saying "we got Manny". At what point in your fandom do you figurative add yourself to a team?

I only ask because i have been a Rangers fan for 20 something years, and I still say "they"

  1. lol..i honestly dont know..maybe they feel lonely and dream about being part of the team..lol..im a yankees fan!! but im a cali girl...haha

  2. I'm agree with YFFL!

I think that i'm a big fan so when I talk about the Mets I say "My Mets"!

    Good Question!

  3. it depends on how you look upon your relationship with the team.

I have been a golden state warriors fan for my entire life and i say "we"

i am a fan of the giants, i like to watch them play, although i am not as dedicated to them therefore i say they.

  4. to refer to your team as "we" is ignorant you are not a member .

  5. I am a Yankee fan and went i refer to the Yankees i call them My yankees, we  i use we a lot and yes i don't play for the Yankees but as a fan who's stick with them and supports them i think i have the rite to use the word we

Edit- thanks SchwaaSports = RIP Bobby Murcer

  6. When I talk about the Tigers I call them the Tiggers or other words I can't say or I'd probably get kicked off the board. It depends on the mood I'm in. I try to say "we" but I really don't have any influence on what they do.

  7. It never should be "we" for anyone who is not an employee of that ballclub.

I'm a Cubs fan who has used many terms over the years -  the Cubs, Cubbies, my Cubs, etc., and a few that would not be well received in a forum such as this (Suffice it to say I could type them, but they would be all asterisks)

I can see being attached to a team, but using we is not only wrong grammatically, it gives the indication that the person actually had something to do with that teams achievements. People get attached to certain bands too, but I never once heard a Van Halen fan say "Hey - we got Sammy Hagar!"

Leave the "We" to a group you are actually a part of, not to a group that you happen to be a fan of.

  8. Usually when the team starts winning, or they do something they think will make them better. As far as the Rangers go, you say "they" because Texas is football country.

  9. i dunno. I've always said "we" because well i get attached. (that's why I can't seem to let go when players get traded haha) i mean when they lose i'm sad when they win i'm happy. Let's say they go on bereavement because their grandmother past away then i wish them the best of luck. (i actually to that to everyone but still..) I am very dedicated to my team and I am obsessed actually! haha XD I've been watching them for almost over half my life!

then again i still mix it up a little, "them" "the angels" "we" :)

  10. Well, it's sometimes better to say "we" because it makes you feel like your part of the team.  Even though there's so many people that say "we" it just sound better to them.  It's almost like you're one big family.
