At what point should the clutch engage when you release the clutch lever (motorcycle)?

just bought a suzuki gs550, and have never owned a motorcycle before (just dirt bikes), i know on my yz250 i adjusted the set s***w for the clutch inside the motor to start engaging the clutch after the clutch lever was one quarter released, but this bike is starting to engage when the clutch lever is three quarter released, is this correct if not what is?

  1. Every car and motorcycle has different point where the clutch engages.  As long as it does NOT slip when when fully released it is NOT a problem.

  2. I like my clutch to grab at the mid point. If your clutch is a cable type you can adjust it to where ever you'd like , If it's a hydraulic you're kinda at the mercy of the system.

  3. As per first answer, every vehicle has a different friction point.

    3/4's is probably a bit too far, I also prefer a clutch to engage earlier than later, but you should be able to adjust the clutch on the cable adjuster on the clutch lever to a point that suits you better.

    My current bikes all engage around the 1/4 out position.
