  1. what a load of codswallop, its a well known fact ask any salesman or business man who works figures you can make them say what you want, the nanny state  you live in say you can't smoke in public places as i predicted they are starting on alcohol now ,we were publicans and the area we lived in had a noticeable drop in so called alcohol related incidents[from a contact in the police headquarters control room] so when you see these figures always be a little sceptical

  2. The report says alcohol abuse was rising before the relaxing of the laws.

New laws wouldn't of helped, but nothing in your link proves that it is the reason.

I agree with above, there are idiots who will drink no matter what and the number of idiots seems to be increasing.

  3. Trouble is, politicians hate undoing legislation. It's seen as a massive climb down and admitting mistakes. And after all they're prefect aren't they?

The whole revamping of licensing laws should've been introduced as a long term trial run. Then they could've undone it without losing face. Us Brits don't seem responsible enough to enjoy continental drinking laws.

  4. It just illustrates the approach they've taken all along.  You can't please all of the people all of the time - triangulation (also known as Downright lying or Blairing) means if you tell people what they want to hear at some point you must by definition not be telling the truth to some of them.

    Objective analysis it isn't !

  5. Hi QBF:  You assume that the did not know when they did it.  I think they knew only too well.  There is a concerted effort by the powers that be in this country to undermine all decent behaviour in society.  They knew perfectly well what they were doing.  Question is, why do we let them and what are we going to do about it.

  6. Most alcohol is bought in supermarkets where it's cheap. I don't think new licensing laws has too much to do with it. People have to take responsibility for their own life and stop blaming everybody else!

  7. when it comes to anything pharmalogical Labour don't have a clue. The point labour wake up is when they are voted out of government and they then blame the party in power for the mistakes Labout made.

  8. Regs as in having drinking laws that were put in place during ww1 so soldiers weren't drunk? It's because people have to drink up fast at certain times that there are so many drunk people at once.

I find it sad that some people need government help to stop them drinking too much and can't work out how to do it themselves.

  9. It isn't damaging.  What is damaging is stupid people who don't know they're drinking too much.

The sensible people should not have to suffer because of an idiot minority.

What I mean by this is that we have the most alcohol related problems in Europe, and yet we have among the tightest controls.  Places like Netherlands and Germany are nowhere near as strict and have half the problems we do.

  10. When it damages their chances of winning an election.
