  1. A meteor is what you call a bit of space grit when it burns up in the atmosphere. The objects that become meteors are called meteoroids. I don't think there is a formal specification for asteroids the way there now is for planets. As a general rule, though, asteroids are leftovers from the cloud that the solar system formed from, and are in relatively stable orbits. Meteoroids are bits of comet debris.

  2. You have it backwards. Its the asteroid that gets relabeled meteor,  once it enters the earth.

  3. Okay, a meteoriod is smaller than an asteroid, becuse meteoriods are usually up to 10 meters wide, to as small as space dust.  They don't usually "live" long enough to be "promoted" to anything, cause they usually become meteors and are therefore, rained down into the atmosphere of Earth, where they burn up.  If an asteroid breaks up and falls into a path in which it would eventually hit Earth it would be demoted to a meteor, and it it did eventually land it would become a meteorite!

  4. cant top the answer, Quasar should get it.

more trivia on meteors - the older tv sets that didnt have the blue screen when there was no signal, or ones you can switch off the blue screen, turn the channel to ch 2, turn down bright ness to where the raster just disappears. Connect a tv antenna to the tv, and everytime a meteor enters the atmosphere where you could see it, it will flare up the screen

  5. Quasar got it, a little rude, but he got it.

  6. Just to re-iterate the first answer.

    asteroids are rocks in space

meteors are the trails in the sky as such rocks come into the atmosphere

meteorites occur if some of the rock survives to hit the ground (most meteors do not end in meteorites)

Give Quasar best answer - he nailed it

  7. An asteroid is a large rock in space!

A meteor is an asteroid that has entered Earth's atmosphere!

And a meteorite is a meteor or the remains of a meteor that survived the entry into the Earth's atmosphere!
