At what size of TV does 1080p make a difference to the naked eye?

The bigger you get the more important it is. But almost all the new TVs come with 1080 anyway. 720p is good enough too.

any size.  also make sure you look at the contrast ratio.  the good tv's are now about 50,000 to 1.
