  1. The American Welding Society (AWS) defines soldering as a joining process that takes place below 840°F and brazing as a process that takes place above 840°F but below the melting point of the base metals.

    In actual practice for copper systems, most soldering is done at temperatures from about 350 to 600°F, while most brazing is done at temperatures ranging from 1100 to 1500°F.


  2. this is totally dependent on the application of the pipe and the solder used. The temp that is required to melt the solder. Silver solder requires the pipe to be cherry red, while depending on the % of tin it could just be about 350 degree melting point.

  3. only hot enough to melt the solder. It's reflective heat that your concerned about, not the actual temperature of the pipe

  4. around 600-700 degrees.  it's more dependant on the meling point of the type of solder you are using.  most modern solder for sweating pipes melts around 620-650
