    Anyhow the answer is -40.

    Here are the conversion equations

    An easy way to remeber this is that water boils at 212F which is 100 C.

    to get from 212 to 100

    212 - 32 = 180

    180 / 9 = 20

    20 * 5 = 100

    So the steps are subtract 32, divide by 9, then multiply by 5.

    C = (F - 32) * 5 / 9

    You can trial error to find -40 but the official way would be to use two different temperatures to create a system of equations.  Then you can solve for when they are equivalent.
