The shortest day is Dec 20th and that is day the sun sets at its earliest: 4:07pm as listed in the web page listed below.

i was actually surprised by this as I was always under the impression that the earliest sunset was a few days before the shortest day while the latest sunrise was a few days after the shortest day.

I should say near November or December is where the sun goes down early. Sometimes it goes earlier then 5 in the afternoon but as everybody says the shortest day December 21st is the shortest day and that's where the sun goes down earlier.

Dublin do have rain almost every day but not as much as it is in the west of Ireland. They have more rain then us because of their  high mountains rain falls mostly there...
