  1. about 50 years ago

  2. The club of rome http://www.clubofrome.org/ limits to growth report back in the 1970s showed we needed to be well on the way to a sustainable society by 2000. or we will experience a crash in health and quality of life around 2020-2050 (the "poor" who contribute least to these problems will be affected first)

it's not just fossil fuel, but water, metals, pollution, soil errosion, loss of bio-diversity, loss of forest & marine carbon sinks, inequalities of power and opportunity ...

  3. That is called the "tipping point", and I fear that we have already crossed it.

  4. We haven't been allowed to use fossil fuels[coal] since 1995 here.

    iIts all gas or electric

  5. 2050

  6. We should have done it long ago because fossil resources are too valuable to waste in the way we have been doing.  But the catastrophes that are now looming can still be averted by rapid immediate action.

You might wonder what I mean by saying that we have been wasting resources.  Well fossil resources have lots of valuable uses not just energy generation but things like plastic, nylon and other materials which are made from oil and gas.  Once theses resources are gone we will realise just how valuable they were.

The reason we have been wasting them is that we regarded them as cheap.  All we have paid is the cost of extraction when we should have paid at least the cost of replacement.  The cost of replacing fossil fuels is the cost of generating power with wind, wave, tide, hydro and solar sources and was much higher than the cost we have been paying for fossil fuels.  That is why we have been wasteful with irreplaceable resources.

Please everybody recognise that the point of no return for global warming is fast approaching and that every tonne of fossil fuel burnt is a tonne of valuable resource stolen from our children and grandchildren.  We have already done enormous damage but we can, at least, stop.

Please do not regard nuclear power as an answer.  It is only another fossil fuel that will run short and burning uranium in reactors creates another form of dangerous waste product.  Nor is it efficient when you take the costs of treating and storing the waste into account, not to mention the risk of accident or terrorism.

Reduce consumption of everything, re-use what can be re-used and recycle what can not be re-used.  By doing so you will demonstrate to others that a simple lifestyle is more fun than trying to keep up with the neighbours.  You will also demonstrate to Governments that there are votes to be won with sensible conservation policies.

    Best wishes

  7. Renewable energy...what the fug is that??

  8. when the "war's stop"for oil and the so called super powers give the boot to the profit at all cost to the consumer ,mind set.

Lets say, circa white domination of all our planet and start livinging in harmony of each others assets, without greed.

Pay the big profit makers off right now and tell the upcoming empires we are wrong and so are you let us alll share.

    ,"OUR" EARTHS Wealth together.

    Merry Christmas to all HUMANS.

  9. In the future?  The future has already passed.

  10. We do not know the answer to your question yet. Some scientists say we need to begin now. Others say within 10 years we need to make significant changes. Others say no need to at all.

We will never cease completely. No need to. We just need to shift enough to reduce CO2 production to a lower point. This can be done in many ways. Conservation, forrestation, Reducing population, as well as shifting to alternative fuels and Nuclear Power. Nuclear Energy is the only real option we have now that can produce the amount we need to shift as soon as possible. Solar, Wnd, etc can help, but cannot provide the amount we need and remain cost effective and reliable.
