Apologies for the searching question, btw, i'm just seeing what people's reactions would be.

It'll be invaluable in the long run.

  1. No, for all I know this newly proven god could be any of the 6,000 mankind has come up with over the years.

  2. If a God was proven to exist, I would still regard the Bible in it's natural state - a collection of folklore, cultural strictures, and social paradigms suited to a particular ethnic group of the Bronze Age Middle East.

EDIT:  To add to my answer in light of your details, in that case I would assume that the God in question has no reason to be worshiped, and that defying Him was a reasonable response.

  3. If the god of the Bible was able to prove his existence to me, and explain how all his actions I find detestable were justified, and would confirm that the Bible accurately represents his opinion, despite being translated again and again over time, sure.

So tell Yahweh to get on that.

  4. im already doing that....He will come down and EVERy knee will bow down too..

  5. I'm not atheist, but I'd have to say probably not. I mean Atheists would probably want  A LOT of evidence. And where would you get it? How do you scientifically prove that? And after that, what would be the point of religion? I mean half of it is believing, having faith that God is there, even though you can't prove it. Even if God came down and spoke to an Atheist, he'd still have to show the evidence that he was really God. And then we're back at square one.  Even though I'm not an Atheist, if a great shiny man came to me and said, "I AM GOD" I'd probably ask him to prove it.

  6. Would I believe in gods if scientifically proven?  Yes.

Would I worship that god?  No, not until he sorted out the contradictions inherent in the fairy tale book.

  7. No, proof of existence does not equate worthy of worship..

    Addition:

    "No choice" ?

Didn't the deity of the bible supposedly give everyone freewill making your claim of "no choice" moot...

Try and keep up son going back to get you becomes tedious and redundant quickly...

Addition:  At which point did I mention physical form and audio?  Not at any point...

Audio from supposed deity in the bible....

    Genesis 24:7

7: The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.

    (Not audio communication spake)

Visual of supposed deity of the bible...

    Exodus 24:11

11And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

    (Note visual they saw God)

Making your claim of nowhere in the bible wrong...

Simply because I am atheist does not mean I do not know many of the things in the book of mythology called the bible...  I am also not Greek or Roman yet I know much of that mythology as well...

Yet again tedious and redundant... Please try to keep up...

  8. It depends if it was just God no. If it was proven that it was the God in the bible then yes but would there be any choice.

What about when God called out Isaac (I think) three times. Is that not auditory communication.

  9. No, I wouldn't.

I would become a misotheist (if it was proven it was the Bible God).

"Even if God came down and spoke unto the unbeliever, that they had no choice but to follow the will of God?"

That would only make me hate God more, if he did something as egocentric as that.

  10. If your god could be scientifically proven, he wouldn't be your god.

And for what it's worth, I believe many atheists do follow many principles of the bible. Love they neighbor as thyself...nine out of ten commandments -- more so than many christians I know.

So what you're really asking is, will they kneel before Zod if he appears.  Worshipping and practicing christian principles are not the same thing.

  11. So, Ethan, you are not an atheist after all. I thought you were, but you can't hate something that doesn't exist.

As a Christian, I was interested in looking in on this question. It seems to me that if God were to show Himself without a doubt, that the Bible would become redundant. It is all about spreading the faith, but God would then be a matter of scientific fact. Churches would close because everyone would learn about God in science class. Plus, all of that end of the world stuff would be moot, wouldn't it? There would be no ned of Judgment Day, since you would obviously believe in Him. As I hinted above, even if you hate Him, you are believing in Him. I'm fairly sure an atheist would see all of this differently.

  12. No, the existence of a creator of the universe does that imply that he/she/it opposes eating pork or g*y s*x.

  13. Yes. Btw short of woshiping God most atheists follow the teachings of the bible now.

  14. If a god exists, there is no reason to:

    1.  Assume it created the Universe.  It might have been created with the Universe and be a part of it.

    2.  Assume that, even if it was the creator, that it was the god of the Bible.

It could be that of the Sikhs.  Then where would the Christians, Jews and Muslims be?

  15. I doubt it.  I there is a God, my guess is he/she would want nothing to do with the Bible.

  16. Do mean those little things like not murdering people and stuff like that?

No, I don't but what are the teachings of the bible that you are talking about?

  17. Possibly.  If the God proven by science was indeed the one in the Bible, then I probably wouldn't have much choice in the matter.

I think, however, that if science was going to prove any God, then it would more likely be the God spoken of by Thomas Paine or Baruch Spinoza.

  18. No.  A scientifically proven basis for belief in something larger than myself still doesn't convince me that the bible is anything but a book that has had some unlikely affect on people who are searching for an idol to pin their hopes on.  By the way, I do believe in something larger than myself.  I just don't give it a name or a personality.

  19. Well firstly it would need to be the god of the bible that is proven to exist

but seeing as how believers don't follow the teachings of the bible now, then no.

I mean does any women go out to the desert to kill 2 doves every time she has her period?

Set fire to your mother in law for wearing clothes made of 2 different threads?

  20. No, if (whatever) god appeared, we wouldn't have to follow the dodgy old bible, he'd tell us in person what he really wanted.

  21. You don't need science to prove God, just look up at the sky at night. Some one had to make the moon and stars etc. It obviously wasn't us, since when have you clicked your fingers and made a moon appear. We obviously didn't occur here ourselves because a man and a woman had to first occur to make a child, i find it hard to believe a rock or what ever exploded and animals of both sexes, humans of both sexes whose body is so complex it takes 7 years at university to learn about it, just happen to be here and just happens that the two sexes can reproduce by a fairly complicated process. Now it's obvious that something had to exist with out a beginning, but isn't it more believable that someone intelligent  can only make an intelligent being.(since when has a exploxing rock created intelligence?)

Now you don't have to follow God and follow your own sinful ways but if He exist then that bit about enternal life or death also exist and i don't know why you would want to choose eternal death. And what's so wrong about following Gods laws, if everyone obeyed them then there would be no murders, stealing, you husband or wife wouldn't have an

affair, you teenage kids wouldn't disrecpect you. Gee that would be such a horrible place to live in. Wouldn't want to miss the chance of my kid getting murdered.

  22. If it was scientifically proven that there was a God, of course I'd believe it, but I wouldn't follow the teachings of the Bible because I strongly disagree that any God would endorse a book that's so full of fear and hate.

I'd worship it in my own way.

  23. You're an idiot.  God doesn't care about the bible, he's too busy helping out the fortunate.
