Atheists, What evidence do you have that proves God does not exist?

A so called lack of evidence for God's existence does not count as evidence for His non existence. I want to know what evidence you have to back your beliefs.

  1. I guess I was reading Banana's mind...

The bible is my proof that your god does not exist. Case closed.

  2. The bible is enough for me.

  3. Maybe the lack of evidence doesn't do it for you, but it does for me or any other reasonable and logical person.

  4. *liver failure*

you have no proof that the flying spaghetti monster does not exist no go dress up as a pirate!

  5. Please provide me with evidence that you are not a sexually deprived vampire pedophile?

    I'll wait....

  6. Strawman. What proof do you have that the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't exist? It's up to the person who makes the ridiculous claim to back it up, not for the sane person to prove that they aren't stupid.

  7. The same evidence YOU have that the invisible pink unicorn or the flying spaghetti moster don't exist.

  8. You are the group declaring that there is a God that exists, capable of creating an entire universe.

Atheists are simply saying, "we don't believe you, prove it".

YOU are the one making the claim, YOU are the one that needs to provide evidence to support it.

  9. Yes, a lack of evidence for something's existence does count as evidence for its nonexistence. If you claim there was a horse in your house, and we look all over the house without seeing any horse, any broken furniture, hoof prints, or any other evidence for the horse, the lack of this evidence counts as evidence that the horse was not really there.

Of course it does not PROVE that the horse wasn't there, but there is a difference between "proving" and "giving evidence for." But "proof" in a strict sense is rarely ever had, but we still function. You, for example, cannot prove that Ancient Greek Paganism was not the correct religion and that Zeus does not exist, yet I take it you do not find these beliefs credible.

As for me and Christianity, the Christian God is a funny philosophical construct. The "omni-" nature of God makes logical (dis)proofs possible. So, for example, we could say that, given God's omniscient, omnipotent, omni-benevolent nature, there should be no cases of unnecessary suffering in the world. All suffering would have a purpose. Because God is all-powerful, He could prevent unnecessary suffering. Because He is all-knowing, He would know how to do so, and because He is loving and good, He would desire to do so. So is there any unnecessary suffering in the world? Theists have tradditionally used the existence of free will in humans to argue that human suffering has a point (it is allowed because it is a needed to guarantee our free will). So the question is, is there any being without free will which suffers unnecessarily? The answer, clearly, is yes. Such unnecessary suffering occurs all the time in animals. A rabbit who starves to death in winter. A deer who gets burned alive in a wild fire. The immense amount of unnecessary suffering that beings without free will endure counts as very strong evidence (maybe even proof) against the existence of God.

  10. Oh, I dunno, mate.  If you spend thousands of years actively searching for evidence of God, and find none, it is reasonable after that amount of time to conclude that he probably isn't there.

However, you do make a reasonable point - I cannot discount the possibility that maybe he's playing hide and seek.

    You new here?

Some people require more evidence than "faith" exhibits.

Your belief does not constitute evidence.  I understand you have been taught that it does, but the rest of the world doesn't get it.

I don't accept the challenge to prove something doesn't exist.

If it doesn't exist...  just because it doesn't... there will be no evidence regarding it at all...  which is the place we find ourselves...  something that exists...  will have evidence...  other than ancient mythology...  of it's existence.

If only ancient mythology...  and faith...  are the only evidence FOR there being a god, then I submit there are older gods than the hebrew god.  Ya might wanna go with one of the originals.  Only faith...  that's what it boils down to.  Just which one you decide is the one.

    Hope you pick right.

I'm not getting involved.  Sounds like too much drama for me.  If there has to be that much drama, we could hold an audition...  for a reality show...  me and america can pick which god...  Divinity Idol ...  with paula abdul as one of the judges...  we would have to see how the insurance company would want to deal with the cross nailing episode...  each week vote off a different deity.  I'll bet the ratings would be...  heavenly.  ...wonder if any of them would show up for the contest...

    anyway...

  12. *Cheers*

The burden of proof is not mine dear.

  13. Same as Susquatch.

  14. The same evidence we use for the easter bunny, and father christmas.

  15. Atheism is a lack of belief in God or gods. How can it take belief to not believe in a deity?

  16. The many contradictions of the Bible. War, pain, hatred, other planets, evolution. I could go on.

    x

  17. You have no evidence to back your beliefs, sir.

To answer your question, there is no proof that there is no God and there is no proof that there is a God.

  18. [sigh]

    Here we go again.

"Remember that the burden of proof is on the person alleging the existence of something. If someone tells me that the Easter Bunny is hiding in somebody's clothes closet somewhere in North America, there is no need for me to search every closet on the continent. The person making the claim has to produce the rabbit or stop wasting my time."

    >>I want to know what evidence you have to back your

    >>beliefs.

Evidence for a the fact that I don't have a particular belief?  That doesn't make any sense.  I don't believe in God because I find no need to think of things in terms of God, just as I don't think of things in terms of ether or pixies.  These concepts have no practical use, they don't really explain the world or give meaning to anything, and I find that they beg way more questions than they offer answers for.  Every "God" concept I've ever heard was either to overly-defined to make any sense, or too vague to be of any practical use.

  19. You can not prove a negative.  You can not prove a negative.  You can not prove a negative.

The burden of proof lies with christians for claiming their god exists.  The burden of proof lies with christians for claiming their god exists.  The burden of proof lies with christians for claiming their god exists.  The burden of proof lies with christians for claiming their god exists.

Is that clear enough for you?  You prove nothing by demanding proof of a negative.  It doesn't support your cause or validate your argument.  In fact it only makes your argument look that much more weak.

  20. Nice cut-n-paste.

There are 5 logical fallacies in 'your' argument.

    Can you spot them?

  21. prove that Ra does not exist

prove that Beowulf is not God

    prove that Odin doesn't exist

    prove that Zeus doesn't exist

prove that santa doesn't exist (lack of evidence doesn't make him not real)

prove that the tea cup with magical fairy powers of doom that is invisible and undetectable does not exist.

It's not our job to prove his nonexistence. An intelligent person realizes that its NATURAL to disbelieve something without evidence (for example that tea cup)

why do u not understand this? lol

  22. k this question is stupid, you cant prove  a negative like that

disprove blue and pink magically flying unicorns from mars pls

you do not understand how much energy there is in the universe

  23. You can't prove a negative.

  24. Firstly, evolutionary psychology.

Secondly, historical evidence pertaining to the evolution of myths.  Many bible stories are the direct result of earlier myths from other civilizations being copied and changed.

Thirdly, we don't need to provide proof of your gods absence, you are the claimant - it is your duty alone to provide proof of the existence of your god. (out of thousands of gods).

  25. Can God brew a pot of tea so hot he couldnt drink it?

If he is all powerful then he can do anything so this statement proves that god is not what is claimed and since it is claimed that he is God then that  means the God you are thinking about doesnt exist :)

  26. All your stupid ideals

you've got your head in the clouds

you should see how it feels

with your feet on the ground

  27. There are many arguments against the existence of God:-

    1.  Problem of Evil

    2.  Problem of h**l

    3.  Inconsistency in Bible

    4.  Inconsistency between the Bible and the observed universe

    5.  Illogical nature of God

Perhaps the strongest argument is ockhams razor, that is,

    1.  God is the most complex explanation possible, being an immaterial being that can result in material action, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent.

    2.  Ockhams razor states that whereever there are two plausible explanations then we should always take the simpler of the two;

    3.  Therefore, any explanation for a query that is put against god, no matter how unlikely, will always be more likely than God.

    4.  There are no queries where the sole answer is God.

The simple fact is, dumb desert men tried to explain their universe (something which is very massive beyond the human scale) by giving an answer that was more complex. This was acceptable to them because it solved their uncertainty - however, as educated people, we understand that any answer will only be acceptable if it is less complex than the query. Thus, the explanation of God is never logically acceptable.

  28. you.

    Well it's about time

    It's beginning to hurt

Time you made up your mind

Just what is it all worth

    All my useless advice

    All my hanging around

All your cutting down to size

    All my bringing you down

Watch the clock on the wall

    Feel the slowing of time

Hear a voice in the hall

    Echoing in my mind

    All your stupid ideals

You've got your head in the clouds

You should see how it feels

With your feet on the ground

    Here I stand the accused

With your fist in my face

    Feeling tired and bruised

    With the bitterest taste

    All my useless advice

    All my hanging around

All your cutting down to size

    All my bringing you down

    All your stupid ideals

You've got your head in the clouds

You should see how it feels

With your feet on the ground

  29. Only if you show me evidence that backs your beliefs first.

[edit:] And since we can't use lack of evidence, you can't use the bible.

  30. "drink"

  31. The burden of proof is on the believer.

The Bible is my proof that God DOESN'T exist.
