Mousetrip: Do I have the space here? And if I had, would you have read it or given one of the usual "too long", "wall text" , etc. usual responses?

NinjaTurtle: The illogical assumption, which you've demonstrated again, is that god is some supreme being.

  1. Define illogical assumptions.

Should I assume there is a supreme creature just because there might be one? That would be illogical.  I only assume there is no supreme creature because there is no evidences to support the existence of one, anyone.

Now, turn away from god, this creature carries too much emotional burden. We shall use another creature. Maybe a Lich. Based on your assumption, should we just assume a Lich exist, any lich, not the ones in the fantasy book, because there is no evidence for it's none existence? If yes, then move on to the next mythological creature. Then over to the next.

It is now on your shoulder to disprove the statement by proving the existence of one god, any god.

    --------

Illogical assumption? Read up the dictionary for the definition.

    Under Webster :

    Atheist

    A"the*ism\, n. [Cf. F. ath['e]isme. See Atheist.]

    1. The disbelief or denial of the existence of a God, or supreme intelligent Being.

Definition of God : (Same Webster Dictionary)

The Supreme Being; the eternal and infinite Spirit, the Creator, and the Sovereign of the universe; Jehovah.

So what is so illogical about it to assume God is referring to a supreme being or supreme beings? The part where you assumed this God is not a supreme being?

    ----

If you think atheists are people who disbelieved in everything, that you had mistaken them with a nihilist. Atheists are just people who disbelieved in the existence of supreme being(s). People, for example, buddhists who believed there are greater creatures then human (Viewed as more evolved form of human with supernatural powers) whom were called Devas, Asuka or other names are still atheists. They do not believe a supreme creature created the universe and the ultimate realization is to be a buddha, and every sentient being has the potential to be a buddha. A Buddha is not a supreme being, he is just a human that realized the truth to end suffering.

  2. Whaaaaat! Do you think it is comforting knowing that when you die all that is going to happen is that your body will rot?

I don't think so pal. I think it would a whole lot more comforting to think I was going to paradise in the sky

  3. "you're making the same illogical assumptions that christians themselves make"

Now exactly what are these illogical assumptions we make?

  4. So too must I ask, is ''The bible says your wrong'' or ''you're going to h**l for your sins'' comfort christians does this? Hrmmm?

  5. So telling me that I am an immoral person that's going to h**l is comforting to Christians.

  6. There is no evidence any supernatural being exists.

  7. I realize that the Christian's view of what and who God is, isn't the same as all other religions.  However, the idea of God is simply a method of not feeling alone in the world.  Humans are social animals and need to have a sense of belonging and some humans more than others.  We will go to any length to create the feeling of not being alone or unnoticed.

If people are alone on an island, they will begin talking to the insects and to the fish.  People will begin to talk to the plants (and many people do anyway, whether or not they are isolated.)  We must create fellowship for ourselves.

The concept of God is that the things we talk to can also answer us and that they also have the power to help.    In truth, talking to things lets us hear our own ideas from another person's point of view and we unconsciously come to our own solutions and possibilites from hearing ourselves talk.  The plant did NOT answer us...neither did the dog or the mosquito or the salmon or the tree!   When we feel calmed and soothed, we make better decisions but because we can not believe we are alone, we pretend and convince ourselves that there is a supernatural power that actually answers.

I say that we are the power and that supernatural abilites lie within.  It is all us.

As Gracie Allen once said as a joke..."Everything I know, I learned by talking to myself about things I knew nothing about!"  Gracie Allen is my God!!  haha!!!!

WE ARE THE ONES WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!  No god is comming...we're it.  I say...believe in yourself and self confidence is very comforting!  No self confidence and trusting incompetent entities is very frightening.  Trusting in something that does not exist, is like saying we don't exist and that we can not trust ourselves.  How very scarey!

  8. Julius Caesar was deified, so he's technically a god, I'm pretty sure he existed. So that's one god that exists.

  9. Our God Concept was the brainchild of ancient, primitive people whose highest intellect had them believe that the earth was flat.

  10. No, we're just bored of theists asking the same questions, over and over.

  11. Interesting question. I don't consider myself an atheist because I believe in an intelligent energy in the Cosmos. I believe it is found in the laws of physics and that it represents the most basic fundamental truths of the universe. This deity is indifferent toward man, neither judgmental nor loving, has no interest in being adored or praised, doesn't care if it is criticized or mocked, because it is not in any way human, it is way beyond anything human. It is our source and we are all parts of it. When I think of God to myself and among my friends, this is the God I refer to. I'm comfortable referring to it as "God" in my own mind and with friends, but I vehemently disbelieve in the biblical "God", which is what 99.999% of people worldwide refer to when they use that word.

  12. We often answer things within the context of the Christian God, but I have never had any God defined or described for me in a way that makes them believable.  Logically, the Deist perception of God - an unknowable Creator who plays no part in out lives - is something I can't argue against, but it is a moot point, like a tree falling in the woods when no one is around.

  13. "Because, as I see it, logically, if you do not automatically assume such a notion it is quite easy to prove the existence of certain gods under proper definitions."

But yet you don't give us those proofs?

Sure, if you define "god" as "a box of Cheerios on a store shelf", it's pretty danged easy to demonstrate that "god" exists, but you've reduced the concept to a meaningless one. Similarly, if you define "god" as "everything in the universe", then you've got a nice tautology, which, again, is essentially meaningless.

  14. we have only one God..through Christ Jesus

  15. I don't actually make blanket claims about the existence of gods, except for the fact that there is no evidence.

But, the possibility of gods doesn't change the fact that I lack belief in gods.

  16. Which other gods CAN you prove exist???

  17. We address the issue of the Christian God mostly because most of us here are American, and Christianity is the dominant religion in this country.

We'll get around to debunking them all, in due course.

  18. No, atheism its not a form of comfort,

    It's the reality.

no big dude stalking in the sky 24-7

  19. I have never been made aware of any evidence that any gods exist - and I usually make a point of saying that.

I don't see how that shifts the burden of proof.  If you have evidence for Ganesha, Quetzalcoatl, Thor or Mithras, I'll happily examine it, just as for the bible god.

or are you quibbling over a semantic definition of the word "god" and saying that Ra, for example, is a different order of being from  biblegod?

In which case, we need a different definition of what a 'god' is or isn't.

Personally, I'm skeptical about all supernatural beings.

  20. We direct our answers mostly to Christianity and the Christian god because that is the focus of most of the questions, and the belief of most of the believers here. However, your assertion that some other gods could be proven is incorrect. Any definition that makes a being into a god of any form is one that necessarily cannot be proven. Unless you can tell me what non-supernatural definition for a god you can come up with, I will stand by my assertion that there is no evidence for any god or gods.

  21. I think that focusing on Christian God is natural when you live in a Christian country and it's the religion with which you're most familiar. I don't really see how it equates with comfort.

  22. I guess you'd say... what can make me feel this way???

    MY GUY!!!

    MY GUYY...

    Talking about my guy!!!!!

  23. Here in Cali we have a famous radio talk show host, he is openly Atheist, he brags about the huge paycheck, he has been married 4 times and he believes we`ll just die and become dust, and that`s the end of it. I think it`s a lazy, selfish way to  live, no fear of God, nothing to worry about, just self gain.

It is a convenience for them to not believe in God cause they`ve done so much harm already that it`s hard for them to face it all.
