Speaking as an atheist myself, I was just wondering. Because while I never shock anybody when I tell them I don't believe in God ('cause Canada's awesome! XD), I DO shock people when I say I don't believe in a soul. Was wondering what the rest of you guys thought.

  1. Atheists don't believe, that is the whole point.

  2. Souls are no more or less verifiable than God. Therefore, I observe the same answer.

  3. not me.

  4. I don't believe in an immortal soul.  I do believe in consciousness and personality but I don't believe that we have a magic part of our being that goes on forever.

  5. No

  6. Well, how about you ask those delicate minds to logically explain what makes the soul there?

Is it that thing you can sometimes smell it when it goes out of you bottom when you make the pffrrrrrrrt sound?

Is it really real, but just never present?

Is it what makes you puppies like you better?

  7. I know not believe that Me all humans and animals have soles on the bottoms of our feet.

  8. What western philosophy calls a "soul" is part of one's karma in eastern philosophy (its the part of you that is reincarnated, and hold your 'ledger' of good and bad deeds - to simplify A LOT). I don't believe in a soul, I do believe in karma. Its also part of your Buddha Nature.

I know a few people who don't believe in "souls" or anything like it.

  9. Can't say I'm a hardcore atheist..just haven't found what I'm looking for yet, probably die that way too.  But I think it's kind of cool to think that our energy live on in what we call a soul, from a scientific to a metaphysical sense.  Who knows...I'm confused like everybody else.

  10. I don't think I do. I need proof.

  11. i'm not really sure what a soul is suppose to be, so i don't see how i can chose whether to believe in it or not. i do think that a person can be a good person and be sure of who they are in themselves without needing to have faith in something called a soul that is the essence of them. i'm okay with being an animal with thought processes, chemicals, a phylogeny, etc, and also being me, but just because i'm okay with it doesn't mean i disbelieve in a soul.

i don't see how i could believe in something without some good evidence to suppose a hypothesis, but that doesn't equate to not believing in it, i'm still open to the possibility, though personally i think it's highly unlikely. then again that's probably why i'd say i'm not an atheist really, i just don't believe in religion or god. i don't see belief as a default human state.

  12. You have a soul if you can love, care, and hope.

Animals don't have a soul, they act on instinct.

  13. Your an atheist, yet you are trying to build a belief system based on your own ideas of what is right for your life with others who share the same idea. no surprises for you guys when you die then eh!!

  14. No, I don't.

  15. I believe in awareness and possibly choice and I don't believe mechanism (this neuron and these chemicals and this electricity and these lobes add up to awareness) really explains it. I could see us doing everything we do (run, eat, fall 'in love' , make judgements, make songs, etc )based on mechanistic brain theory but not actually be aware or make choices. I'm still not willing to believe that someone all powerfull gives a d**n about any living creature though.

  16. No, I don't.
