Question:

Atheists: If you were given the chance to preach...?

I am reversing my recent question directed at Christians. I know many of my fellow atheists are former Christians themselves, and are quite educated about Christianity.

So...if you had to preach a sermon in a Christian church...what would you preach about? Which denomination would you choose? Which issues would you talk about? How would you advise a whole churchful of Christians to act?

For example, from a Christian viewpoint, I would advise people to forget about judging others and instead focus on fixing all the atrocities in the world - poverty, hunger, etc. I might also mention the benefits of ecumenicalism (joining of all denominations) and speak out against Christians fighting and insulting each other's denominations.

Keep in mind that there will be children present. You also cannot state your own opinion as to why Christianity is not true. You must preach from a Christian viewpoint.

(This isn't intended to be a joking question. I'd like serious answers)

  1. I would discuss the genesis for Christianity from a non-Biblical point of view. I would also discuss the importance of understanding reality and why it's important to have an open mind. Lastly I would discuss the importance of not believing things because they are convenient or desirable but accepting things because it is what is observed.

  2. First off, I would be Roman Catholic since it is the original Christian religion.

Second, I would preach about the dangers of being naive and how important education is.  I would also preach that we need to take care of our earth as that is our only source available to keep us and future generations alive.

  3. I'd preach about questioning everything that is given to you, except atheism and evolution.  No reason to question facts!

    I'm Atheist!

  4. I'd preach about questioning everything that is given to you.

If Newton didn't question why the apple in front of him had fallen, would we have discovered the concept of gravity?

If Darwin hadn't questioned, would we have theory of evolution?

Questioning means that we make bigger advances and that's why it's so important.

  5. I would turn it down.

The last thing the world needs, is another d**n preacher.

  6. Most fundamentalist.

Lecture entitled "Facts about evolution and why you're too stupid to comprehend them"

  7. I'd preach about how the 'sheep' are being taken in by the 'wolf'.  Meaning that the church is fleecing the church goer for their efforts (energy) and cash.

Something serious to be said of the only business to have their own country is the Catholic Church.... (The Vatican is a separate country about 40 miles square.)

  8. I would say "Instead of spending hundreds of thousands to build this large building why don't you donate the money to charity and use maybe one thousand to build a shed?"

  9. I would preach about standing alone, think about what your parents have told you and what your church has told you and judge it, analyze, you decide if it makes sense!

Think about everything around and don't just instantly believe, if it still makes sense to you fine, believe.

Don't disregard science when judging christianity, don't pick and choose what parts of science you want to believe to fit around the concept of God.

You have a brain- use it! Real integrity comes from the strength to question that around you, things have been told to you since you can

    remember.

I don't really care who i preach to- probably Roman Catholic would be my preference (serious issue with them), but as I said, I don't mind to much.

  10. I would say "life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death."
